There was some great racing right across Australia on Saturday, with the feature race being the Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield. Who caught our attention on the track? Find out down below:

Canterbury-
Race Two Number 8 The Bohemian (5th):
Keep an eye on this bloke. He is still a maiden, but he is showing good promise. He got a long way back in this race before peeling widest on the home turn and finishing off stoutly. He is still a maiden, so he’ll be winning that sooner rather than later, and he will be back in town for sure, and I think he will be very competitive.
Caulfield
Race Seven Number 1 Smokin’ Joey (1st):
On class alone, he was the best horse in the race and thanks to a lovely ride from Chris Parnham, he proved it. He did have residual fitness from the Brisbane Winter carnival, but he was on the fresh side, so credit where credit is due, and he bolted up here. A race like the Sir Rupert Clarke would suit this horse perfectly, and I reckon there could be a lesser class Group l in him.

Canterbury:
Race Four Number 4 Kencella (4th):
I have no idea why people continue to back this horse. You know what will happen- he’ll lead and fold up, and surprise surprise…what happened? He led and folded up. STOP BACKING HIM!
Race Six Number 7 Alias (Last):
A swimmer who has had swimming conditions in recent starts, but is making Eric the Eel looking like Thorpey when it comes to handling wet conditions. Ordinary run and he is barred.
Caulfield:
Race Five Number 5 Fine Approach (9th):
Talented mare, but she just hasn’t fired in recent times. The market support was strong for her here, but she just didn’t fire a shot at all in the run home. She has been up for a while now, but I think she might need the spelling paddock.
Race Seven Number 2 Lord Of The Sky (Last):
What do you say? I don’t think you can. Just say his name and that sums it up. No need to talk about him ever again as a punting prospect.
RIDE OF THE DAY:
Canterbury Race Three Number 1 Beyond Thankful (1st)- Hugh Bowman:
On a high pressure afternoon, Bowman produced some cool moves on this bloke and gave him a 12/10. Got immediately on the back of front runner Tradtri, and sat on his back all the way before peeling out on the turn and then fending off Casino Dancer late. In a close race for the premiership, this peach could just about seal it for the champion hoop.
LOOK AWAY NOW…:
Nash Rawiller on Kristy Lee:
I know this mare is normally a back marker, but surely you’d take advantage of the good draw? Sat last on the fence and just gave Boss Lane too much of a break, who had a very easy time in front. Nash hasn’t had good success when combining with Waller this season ala Kermadec in the Guineas…wasn’t pretty to watch if you backed Kristy Lee.
