Following the weekend’s racing, Racing Victoria has released a new order of entry for the 2010 Melbourne Cup.
The big movers were Irish St Leger winner Sans Frontieres, who is now exempt from the ballot, and Group 2 Park Hill Stakes winner Eastern Aria, who moves from 49th to 40th.
Given the current state of play, Just Horse Racing has compiled the field that would race if acceptances were taken today (September 14).
This field will change considerably over the next six weeks, and is not definitive by any means.
It also misses several horses high in the ballot order who Just Horse Racing believes will not take part in the Melbourne Cup.
These include Cavalryman (3rd in the order), Rebel Raider (10th in the order) and Tactic (19th in the order).
Horses like So You Think (56kg), Metal Bender (56kg) and Triple Honour (54kg) are high up in the weights but are yet to pass the first elimination clause.
The field as it would look today, in weight order, is as follows:
1. Alandi
2. Sans Frontieres
3. Shocking
4. Rite of Passage
5. Campanologist
6. Zipping
7. Shoot Out
8. Mr Medici
9. Illustrious Blue
10. Tokai Trick
11. Monaco Consul
12. Profound Beauty
13. Zavite
14. Master O’Reilly
15. Harris Tweed
16. C’est La Guerre
17. Buccellati
18. Manighar
19. Americain
20. Zabrasive
21. Jessicabeel
22. Faint Perfume
23. Dariana
24. Once Were Wild
Next to get a run are Descarado, Doctor Fremantle, Bauer and Vigor.
However, penalties are likely to change the order constantly over the next few weeks.
This weekend, the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes winner will receive automatic entry to the Caulfield Cup and a penalty for both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
