The China Horse Club and the Singapore Turf Club have joined forces to stage Singapore’s richest race.
The race worth $S3.05 million will be held in February 2015 to coincide with Chinese New Year and will be beamed back to China with a broadcast reach of 600 million.
The event will be one of the highlights of the China Equine Cultural Festival Singapore, the first international lifestyle, social, business and thoroughbred racing event designed specifically for a Chinese audience.
CECF Singapore will be a multi-faceted festival with the theme “East meets West” between February 20 and 22, promoting Singapore as an entertainment destination for the expanding Chinese tourism industry and exposing Chinese culture.
“There has never been a thoroughbred inspired international event designed to cater for the unique requirements of a niche market from Mainland China, the CECF Singapore changes that,” CHC chairman Teo Ah Khing said.
“The concept of drawing a population of Chinese, including ultra high net worth Chinese, overseas with a sophisticated lifestyle and social festival is very exciting.”
Singapore was chosen as the destination for the inaugural festival because of the large number of Chinese tourists and Chinese speaking locals.
The China Horse Club has become a major player in international racing with its successes including this month’s Group One Flight Stakes in Sydney with First Seal.
Irish racing and breeding super power Coolmore is among the partners in its racing and breeding venture.
Details of the race at Kranji are yet to be finalised.
