Jockey Tegan Harrison achieved another career milestone with a family win at Ipswich on Wednesday.
Harrison, who will finish fourth in the metropolitan jockeys premiership, rode a heady race to win on Dunrunin ($3.60) for her partner and trainer Ben Hull.
It was Harrison’s 45th metropolitan winner for the season which is one better than her previous best season in 2012-013 when she rode 44 winners.
Harrison has been consistent in her three seasons of full metropolitan riding and now has 140 city winners overall.
“I obviously like riding winners but I get a special thrill when I get one for Ben because he puts a lot of work into his horses,” Harrison said.
Hull expects Dunrunin to improve sharply for his win in the XXXX Gold Hcp (1020m).
“I only put Dunrunin in the field because it looked pretty weak. He didn’t have a barrier trial and he will strip a lot fitter for that,” Hull said.
Meanwhile, trainer Craig Cousins’ decision to tackle easier class with his two-year-old Relampago ($7) paid dividends when the youngster won the Summer QTIS Two-Year- Old (1100m).
Relampago had run a respectable sixth in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes behind top youngster Wicked Intent in December.
“I was a bit surprised by his price today because he was also beaten a nose in a Doomben two-year=old in April. But I suppose his wide barrier today put punters off.”
“I put him in some good races because he is potentially the best horse I have had.
“We had him in last Saturday but decided the Ipswich race would suit better.”
Relampago will run in a two-year=old at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday week and then go for a spell.
