Every Rose defied a betting drift to lead all the way in the Gimcrack Stakes

Chris Waller is more renowned for his patience with horses than as a trainer of two-year-olds but he is not immune to the instant gratification of winning juvenile races.

Global Quest gave the premier trainer just his second win in the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday, two years after he broke his duck with Performer.

Waller says he enjoys training the babies because the precocious ones are so straightforward.

“It happens very quickly, you don’t have to put them out, wait around and give them time,” Waller said.

“The ones that get up and running on the first day, it’s pretty easy.”

Global Quest started $5.50 and showed race sense beyond his years to thread between runners and down Postcode ($7) by a length with Beyliks ($3.30 fav) another three-quarters of a length further back.

While the 2020 Golden Slipper is almost six months away, the TAB has reacted to Global Quest’s win, winding him in from $51 to $17 outright favourite.

Waller confirmed the Aquis Farm colt would be given his chance to get to the two-year-old feature.

“(Racing NSW CEO) Peter V’Landys was just on the phone and he said have a look at the Golden Gift, it’s a $1 million race in about four weeks time,” Waller said.

“I think we’ll be realistic, sit down with the team and work out a path to the Golden Slipper.”

Global Quest ran the 1000 metres in 58.22 seconds, a touch faster than Every Rose clocked to win the Gimcrack Stakes for the fillies.

Like Global Quest, Every Rose ($5) defied a betting drift with Josh Parr making use of the Mark Newnham-trained filly’s good draw to lead most of the way, outsprinting Stellar Pauline ($4.40) to score by 1-1/4 lengths with Ticket To Ride ($7.50) another neck away.

A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase, Every Rose will be given a short break and prepared for next year’s Gold Coast feature.

“We’ve got a big bunch of happy ladies because she’s a ladies syndicate Magic Millions horse so hopefully we’re celebrating like this on Magic Millions day,” Newnham said.

“She is a very straightforward two-year-old and what you see there is what she can do at home.

“When she was able to control the race in front she was always going to be hard to beat.”

Every Rose firmed from $26 to $21 second elect for the Golden Slipper while Mildred’s price halved to $51 after she made it two wins from as many starts in the Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington.
