‘Physically, he’s a Zoustar clone,’ stated Antony Thompson of Widden Stud with news that Zousain is retiring to the Widden Valley it is season.

‘An easy Group 2 winning 2yo and half a length from emulating his sire as a 3yo when running a close second in the Golden Rose Group 1 and Coolmore Stud Stakes Group 1.’

‘Group 2 winning 2yo, multiple Group One runner-up with over $746,000 including the $200,000 Champagne Classic 1200m by 3 lengths at Doomben, and debut the Randwick 2yo Plate of 1200m.’

‘As reigning Champion First and Second Season Sire and now Champion Third Season Sire, Zoustar has a healthy 60% winners ratio, with 13 stakes winners and progeny earnings of over $25million.’

‘Group One runner-up with over $746,000 including the $200,000 Champagne Classic at Doomben 1200m by 3 lengths, and on debut the Randwick 2yo Plate of 1000m.’

Also at two years he finished a neck second to The Autumn Sun in the J.J. Atkins Stakes of 1600m and the BRC Sires Produce Stakes at 1350m.

At three he was a neck second to the Champion 3yo Filly Sunlight in the Coolmore Stud Stakes 1200m, a neck to The Autumn Sun in the Golden Rose Stakes 1400m, and second in the Zeditave Stakes 1200m.

In now being the only horse to win the Golden Rose – Coolmore Stud Stakes double, it was his sire Zoustar who sired all three placegetters of the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

As being Champion First Season, Second Season Sire and Third Season Sire, Zoustar has a healthy 60% winners ratio, with 13 stakes winners and progeny earnings of over $25million.

In addition to champion filly Sunlight winning the Coolmore Stud Stakes, Newmarket Handicap, and William Reid Stakes, Zoustar is also the sire of nine additional Group winners including Zousain.

Zousain is from the US Gr3 winner Pasar Silbano, by the Champion British Sprinter Elnadim, who is a full-sister to stakes winner Come To Heel and half-sister to stakes winner Gerfalcon.

Tracing to the Goodwood Stewards Cup winning fourth dam Repetitious, this is the family of Champion British Older Miler Indian Lodge, sires Sarhood and Sifting Gold plus Buy Or Sell and Artwork Genie.

Zousain’s champion sire Zoustar has certainly made his mark in Australian as ‘reigning Champion Australian First, Second and Third Season Sire and reigning Champion Australian Sire of 4YOs.’

In ‘siring a phenomenal Group 1 trifecta in the Coolmore Stud Stakes of 1200m at Flemingtion, he averaged over $325,000 at the Inglis 2019 Easter Yearlings with his top-lot fetching $1,000,000+.’

‘The sire of superstar and multiple Group 1 winning sprinter Sunlight, Zoustar was a leading sire of individual Group 1 winners at the 2019 Spring Carnival.’

These are the feelings of a very proud Widden Stud who also state that Zoustar is the ‘only horse to win the Group 1 Golden Rose-Coolmore Stud Stakes double.’

As Leading Third Crop Sire for 2019-20, Zoustar had Sunlight win the Gilgai Stakes and twice Gr1 and Golden Eagle placed. Sunlight later sold for a record $4.2m at the MM National Broodmare Sale.

At this year’s Australian Easter Yearling Sale his full-brother to champion Sunlight sold for $1.1m to Team Hawkes, and last year his Acouplamas colt made $1,075,000 with his Madamesta colt selling for $1 million. In 2017 his Listen Here filly sold for $1m to Bruce Perry Bloodstock.

Sunlight became Champion Australian 3YO Filly in 2018-19 in winning the Newmarket Handicap, Coolmore Stud Stakes and William Reid Stakes, with Zoustar’s additional black type winners being Lean Mean Machine, Charge, Sun City, Zoustyle, Persuader and Sun Knight in Singapore.
