Murray Bridge is where SA metro racing takes place on Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:16) Adelaide Galvanising Hcp (c2) 1200m
I’m worried about 59kg and 1200m, but on class, 1 Just Zerene (Bet Now: $1.55) wins and wins comfortably. Resumed in the Lightning at Morphettville when sitting on a very strong speed and tried hard, but was bloused late by a two year old, a potentially smart one, in Parlophone. Should lead this field up and win, but her barrier manners are still a big concern.
5 Another Award (Bet Now: $4.00) is the main threat for me. Three weeks between runs for the Macdonald/Gluyas team since contesting the Oaklands Plate on the Parks track where she got back and worked home strongly third to the very impressive winner Instant Celebrity, beaten a length. Onto a bigger track, severely back in depth, she rates highly.
7 Call Me Archer (Bet Now: $51.00) can be an improver here at odds for Shayne Cahill. On the quick back up after racing last Saturday on the Parks track where he was back last in the small field and considering the leader/winner ran the last 600m in 33.8, those behind had no chance, including this guy. Up to 1200m I like and hopefully the tempo is more genuine.
Race 2. (12:51) Adrian Pederick Mp (68) 1200m
Been a long time since 1 This Kid Rocks (Bet Now: $11.00) has raced against a line up like this but the reason for that is because he’s not racing well at the higher levels. In saying that, he was luckless last Saturday behind Silverhawk. Was sitting off a hot speed and looked to be going well but the gaps just didn’t appear and it was more like a barrier trial. Back to this level, think he can win.
4 Royalty (Bet Now: $2.90) is a key threat for me. Team McEvoy trained four year old that excuses two back on the Parks track behind Defiant Dancer before having a freshen up and racing over 1200m last time out at Murray Bridge where he looked a good thing on paper and won accordingly. Now his confidence is high, hard to beat.
The first up win of 2 Ice Ghost (Bet Now: $4.60) over 1000m here was enormous given 1000m isn’t normally a trip he likes, but was specked at a price and produced a brilliant finale from the back to get up and score, running some outstanding late splits. If he reproduces that here, hard to beat for sure and the claim helps.
Race 3. (13:26) Passing Of Reg Tanner (78) 1000m
7 Star Of Monsoon (Bet Now: $6.00) is knocking on the door to win one for Grant Young. He ran last Saturday on the Parks track and I think with a clear path, he fights the finish out instead of beating one home behind Brimarvi Vehero. He’s going well this guy but the rub of the green hasn’t gone his way. Hopefully it does this time around.
Bob Richard has 3 Star Hills (Bet Now: $3.40) going super. Has won his past two, the latest coming several weeks ago over 1050m at Morphettville when finishing best and handling the bog track best in a real slog to the line. His recent runs suggest he seems to save his best for wet ground, so interesting to see how he’ll go on firmer footing.
8 Domination (Bet Now: $11.00) will make sure this is a fast run 1000m and will give enormous cheek from the front. Grant Young trained speed demon that led from the front and though he was getting the staggers late, he clung on to win. Gets good weight relief for this, finds the front and will look the winner for a long way. Las 50m will be his acid.
Race 4. (14:06) Torrens Building & Civil (64) 1400m
Happy to be with 6 Fields Of Ivy (Bet Now: $2.00), who resumes for the McEvoy camp. Debuted over 1200m at Morphettville back on Melbourne Cup Day when backed as if unbeatable and duly saluted under a confident ride from Vorster. Four winners have come out of that maiden and overall time was solid. Two jumpouts to prepare for her return and stable are near unbeatable at Murray Bridge.
Fascinating runner is 4 Aqueduct (Bet Now: $7.00), a former Kiwi that makes his Australian debut for the Michael Hickmott stable. Showed a bit of promise when racing in NZ, winning one of seven, but the form around him doesn’t read too bad. The stable backed one with confidence last Saturday and it didn’t fire, so interesting to see what they do with this guy from a betting perspective.
1 May Be Fate (Bet Now: $7.50) is a son of Reward For Effort for Jim Smith that resumed over 1200m at Gawler a few weeks ago and was a real eye catcher from off the speed when a close up third to Call Me Dexter in a blanket finish. Then raced two weeks ago and bumped into a good one, The Difference. Now up to 1400m, hard to beat.
Race 5. (14:46) Spry Civil Construction (68) 1200m
This looks lovely placement by Kylie Huxtable when it comes to her mare 3 Nasifa (Bet Now: $3.20). Was three weeks between runs and back to 1050m from 1200m when racing a fortnight ago, and combined with being held up when wanting to wind into her work, there was enough there to bring about her undoing, yet was only beaten a length. Fitter, up to 1200m, against the Mares…she’ll take a power of beating.
5 Ruler By Choice (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Team McEvoy trained mare that had jumped out well prior to resuming at Swan Hill on Mildura Cup Day. Market wanted to be against her late and they got it right, although she did close off okay late behind Radiant Warrior. Better for that outing, back to SA and the stable has an unbelievable S/R at this track, going at just over 34%.
4 Exalted Lauretta (Bet Now: $17.00) is an absolute beauty for Grant Young. Been up forever it seems but gee she’s racing well. Led throughout to win at Gawler last time out, which has been difficult to do in recent meetings at that track, but she showed good ticker under Caitlin Jones to show sustained speed throughout the 1200m. Harder here, but she’ll put herself near the front and give herself every chance.
Race 6. (15:26) Marshall & Brougham (58) 1600m
1 Resurge (Bet Now: $2.70) has been a bit costly throughout his career but I think he can resume a winner for the McEvoy team. Hasn’t raced since October 25 at Gawler over 1700m when a beaten favourite, very one paced in the straight in an awful effort. Been given a good break and has had two Flemington jumpouts to get ready. His best gets him home.
3 White Heath (Bet Now: $7.00) is bursting to win a race for the Macdonald/Gluyas yard. My knock is remaining at the mile, the trip of his last start effort at Balaklava last Wednesday when a closing second, a good second, to the in form Kalamon. If this was 2000m, he’d be a good thing. Just staying at 1600m is the only knock.
2 Desidero (Bet Now: $3.70) wishes that Port Augusta would race every week because he has looked like Winx in winning there his past two by over seven lengths each time. Grant Young has done a great job with this guy and has got him flying, albeit on the dirt track and against very limited opposition. But all you can do is win and he gives himself every chance with his racing style.
Race 7. (16:06) Riverscape Food & Wine (rs2ly) 1400m
13 Flop (Bet Now: $11.00) is generally a mare who has run well on the seven day back up so with that in mind, going her way but without a great deal of confidence. Looked all over a winner when Stubby shoved her into the clear last Saturday on the Parks track but was nabbed near the line by Left Hand Man. Convinced she’s going well. Just doesn’t want the rain to hit the track too hard.
12 Peloton (Bet Now: $5.50) is a big query here. Former Kiwi that makes his Australian debut for Michael Hickmott. Showed really good promise when racing over there, winning a couple of races before ending up in the NZ Derby where he was outclassed. Couldn’t find a jumpout, so guessing game here re fitness levels, but looks to have a touch of quality off his NZ form.
The best version of 11 Crockett (Bet Now: $5.50) is certainly capable. Four weeks between runs since racing at Gawler where on face value, she was ordinary behind Analytica, but was found to have a respiratory noise post race and Jess Eaton said the horse had choked down. Forget he went around. Off the run two back, he’s in the mix.
Race 8. (16:46) Neil Tanner Memorial (58) 1000m
5 Dawn Salute (Bet Now: $9.00) is one of the better bets on the card I’d suggest. Has clearly had his issues but he has showed enough to suggest he’s better than 58 grade. Hasn’t raced since breaking through for a win at this track/distance on New Years Day where he ran good time in winning and there has been eight winners to come out of it. Loved the jumpouts leading in, will need luck, but if he’s right, he wins.
7 Nicconi Poni (Bet Now: $4.20) is a big watch here. Was formerly trained by Mitch Beer but now finds herself with Will Clarken and we know the record he has with these tried horses. This mare was borderline city class when trained at Albury and keep in mind, five runs ago she ran a 2.7L fourth at Listed level on Geelong Cup Day. Trial was good but two subsequent jumpouts have been excellent.
8 Ready Sunshine (Bet Now: $23.00) is worth including in multiples. Ten years old now for Ryan Balfour but he’s usually around the mark at this level. Be forgiving of his last start effort in what was a strong 72. Was wide no cover throughout and rightfully faded out of the finish. Much better suited at 58 grade and can fill a minor hole.
Race 9. (17:25) Magicmillions.online (68) 1800m
3 Exalted Ruth (Bet Now: $6.00) is somewhat of an iron mare for Grant Young given she seems to be racing every week. This will be the fifth run in six weeks that she’ll race on the Saturday. Impressive winner over 1950m here two back before stepping up to 2000m two weeks ago on the course proper here when looking home but couldn’t withstand the turn of foot produced by Bertwhistle. Hard to beat against this lot.
Sue Jaensch is doing a really good job with her gelding 11 Just Rolling (Bet Now: $8.50), who has won 2/3 this time in with a third at Gawler in between. The last start win came over 2000m here on the quick back up and while I doubt 2000m is his A1 trip, he had enough quality to get him home. Back to 1800m I do like and is hard to beat.
2 Star Status (Bet Now: $7.00) is fourth up from a spell and getting out to an ideal distance, so you’d like think he’ll be close to peak fitness and ready to go in what is a very winnable race if he found anything near his best. Ran over the mile at Morphettville a fortnight ago and worked home okay without really threatening behind the in form Analytica. Drops a bit in depth here and up in trip, he’s likeable.
