Nash Rawiller was happy to finally deliver the goods for bush trainer Kody Nestor

After a couple of near-misses, Nash Rawiller was happy to finally deliver the goods for bush trainer Kody Nestor with victory aboard Fast Talking in the Country Classic.

Rawiller has had a handful of rides for the Dubbo trainer without luck and was pleased to get the job done at Rosehill on Saturday.

“He’s a very promising young trainer,” Rawiller said.

“I’ve had the opportunity to ride for him quite a few times and probably haven’t had a lot of luck a few times, so I’m very happy to repay him with a decent ride today.”

Rawiller settled Fast Talking behind the leaders and after a tussle with runner-up Bajan Gold, the six-year-old got the upper hand to score by a short head.

That pair cleared out by four lengths with Proven Class doing best of the rest.

Rawiller said the winner had to work early from his midfield draw but once he found his spot he relaxed beautifully.

The victory was Fast Talking’s first on a metropolitan track but he had put the writing on the wall with a Kensington placing two starts ago and a fifth to subsequent Golden Eagle runner-up Icebath.

“He’s been racing well in pretty strong company and I thought stepping out to 2000 metres today was really going to suit him,” Nestor said.

“It was a lovely ride. He put him in the right position. It was always a bit of a query whether he’d get the 10 furlongs but he’s done a good job today.”

Nestor was unsure of immediate plans for Fast Talking and said he may need to compete in town more often after Saturday’s triumph.

The trainer is also hoping to have a hand in next year’s rich Country Championships and says he has a “few lined up” who he hopes can qualify for the autumn Final.
