Jockey Samuel Payne has been suspended for seven meetings for his ride on $101 winner Shapurb at Colac.
Shapurb was surprised winner of the first race on Colac Cup day on Sunday beating second favourite Not Forgotten by half a length on the line.
Shapurb had showed next to no ability in his three career starts prior to the win with his best result being a sixth at Werribee beaten 14lengths but was able to turn the form around on Sunday but at the expense of Payne who will miss a week of riding and was fined $500.
Payne’s suspension will start at midnight on Tuesday, February 16 and expire at midnight on February 21.
