The Ascot Carnival continues this Saturday where it is Sires Produce Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.
WA Sires Produce Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the WA Sires Produce Stakes
Race 1. (13:53) Budget Truck Rental Mdn 1100m
3 Yardman (Bet Now: $3.80) looks a safe option in what looks an even maiden to kick the meeting off. Seven weeks between runs since placing in a maiden over the mile here, making it back to back runner up efforts. Freshened up and has been brought back up to fitness with a strong trial win at Belmont on Monday.
1 Miami City (Bet Now: $2.50) has done little wrong in his short career to date. Both runs back from a spell have come down the straight at Pinjarra, the latest seeing him lead the pack and try hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Miss Livinia. Lands on speed and should prove tough to get past.
8 Blue Eyed Girl (Bet Now: $15.00) is a daughter of Snippetson for Lindsey Smith that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since November 26 at Narrogin over 930m when wide no cover on speed and feeling the pinch late. Trialled well enough last week at Lark Hill. Just needs luck from a sticky gate.
Race 2. (14:29) Glenroy Chaff (bm62+) 1000m
Was with 2 Iseered Iseered (Bet Now: $3.70) when he won here two weeks ago and won’t be dropping off. Lovely ride from Pateman saw him win two weeks ago here, getting the suck run behind the speed before angling into clear air and gee he lengthened nicely in putting them away and holding a safe margin. No reason why he can’t win again.
1 Chantorque (Bet Now: $2.90) is the class runner of the field and that will carry him a long way here. This filly hasn’t raced since the Summer Carnival when a solid fourth in the Sir Ernest Lee Steere behind Kissonallforcheeks. Interesting she resumes without a public trial but does have class.
3 Vadette De Star (Bet Now: $4.20) is a watch here from a market perspective. Simon Miller trained filly that was able to beat Charleton Eddie on debut before going to Bunbury where the market didn’t like her and she ran accordingly in a plain effort. Been given six weeks off and we know off the debut, she’s in the mix.
Race 3. (15:09) Tabtouch-wspeed Platinum-rs0mw 1200m
I’ll take a chance with 1 Sir Mambo (Bet Now: $5.00). Has been given over a month between runs since racing at this track/distance where on face value, he was pretty plain behind Universal Pleasure, but was found to be lame post race, so there were excuses. His best is certainly good enough and he strikes a winnable race.
4 Requisition (Bet Now: $4.60) has been a real model of consistency for Brett Pope and is a leading contender here. Thought it was a good ride from Rawiller to win over 1000m here two weeks ago. He kept his running on speed, kept them out, and he found when required, holding on to win, beating City Circle, who won last Saturday, so the form reads well.
3 Dew West (Bet Now: $8.50) can be an improver here for Jason Pateman. Resumed two weeks ago in the Requisition race mentioned above. Thought Pike gave the mare a sweet steer, saving ground nearer the inside, but she couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for fifth. Better for the run, better second up record, she can bounce back.
Race 4. (15:45) All Flags Signs&banners-bm72+ 1200m
Really good race for the short course animals. 1 Nerodio (Bet Now: $3.70) really came of age when last in work during the Winter/Spring, winning three races and establishing himself as a Saturday class horse. He’s quite a reliable horse when on the fresh and thought his recent trial was quite good.
9 Miss Conteki (Bet Now: $1.80) is putting together a really good record for Simon Miller, winning five of six career outings. Latest run came three weeks ago over 1000m here, sprouting wings and producing really good change up speed to get up and beat River Beau. That form just reads so well for a race like this.
3 Chix Pic (Bet Now: $9.50) looks to have come back in good order. Resumed over 1100m here two weeks ago and I loved the way he found the line, producing some of the better late splits of the race behind River Beau. Good second up record and if he can sit closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 5. (16:25) Amelia Park (rs1mw) 2100m
2 Final Chill (Bet Now: $5.00) is starting to put it all together now for Kieran McDonagh and I think he can win again and make it three on the bounce. Last two starts/wins have come over 2200m here. He won a Jericho Qualifier last time out under another lovely ride from Pike, sitting back, wide with cover, and coming with a well timed run. Hard to beat despite Pike not steering.
12 Sheikh (Bet Now: $3.90) It is a lightly raced three year old that has upside and progression. He lacks any real turn of foot, so I think his only way of looking the winner is to press forward, roll along in front and give them something to chase. Five weeks between runs when racing over 1800m here on Good Friday and he gave a decent kick from the front, just feeling the pinch late. He’ll come on from that and will give a sight.
7 Unending (Bet Now: $10.00) hasn’t won in close to two years, but is racing consistently. She ran over 1800m in the race mentioned above that Sheikh It contested. She was back near last in the run and did try hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off but was only beaten a length. If she can use the inside gate, she’ll be dangerous.
Race 6. (17:04) Crown Towers (bm78+) 1000m
1 Money Matters (Bet Now: $16.00) is better suited over a bit further but he has class on his side and that will carry him a long way towards victory here I feel. He had a very busy Spring prep, but the wheels fell off towards the end, finishing down the track in both the Northerly Stakes and Northam Cup. His three trials to get ready have been strong, he goes good fresh and should land in a plum spot from the good draw.
3 Gamma’s Son (Bet Now: $6.50) will need luck from the wide gate, but he’s a beauty for David Harrison that will give this a shake if he does get luck in running. Six weeks between runs since winning impressively at Bunbury. In a similar race, he was put into a lovely spot near the speed and once he clicked into gear, his class came to the fore and he was much too good. Will look the winner at some stage if he gets luck from the gate.
6 We’ve Got Dreams (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented mare for Michael Lane that resumes. This mare had a fruitful Winter prep, where she won several races and established herself as a Saturday class mare. Her trials leading in suggest she’s ready to go for a first up assault and strikes a winnable race from the good draw.
Race 7. (17:40) Seacorp (bm66+) 1800m
7 Pletto (Bet Now: $4.00) is unknown at the trip but is racing as if she will be suited by it. Ran over 1500m here two weeks ago where she lo9bbed into a lovely spot just off the speed and did try hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off and ran third to Majinika. The query is the trip, but she has brilliance.
4 Big Bada Boom (Bet Now: $2.50) deserves another chance. Put together five wins on the bounce before having a freshen up. Raced at this track/distance two weeks ago when on speed and tried hard. Just couldn’t finish the job and had to settle for a second. Better for the run, he’s hard to beat.
1 Bonneville Black (Bet Now: $35.00) gets the Blinkers back on and I reckon that could spark improvement from him. He is getting ready for Belmont I would assume but with the headgear back on, he could run an improved race. Ran down the track behind Black Shadow here two weeks back but was making ground late. One for multiples.
Race 8. (18:20) W.a. Sires' Produce Stakes 1400m
Very tricky race this. I’m going each way with 3 Diamond Blue (Bet Now: $20.00). He was big odds in the Karrakatta and due to the wide gate, his fate was pretty much sealed, but I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off. Draws much better this time around, so he can sit much closer in the run and I don’t think 1400m is an issue.
7 Liwa (Bet Now: $3.30) will look the winner at some stage I’m sure. The query with her is 1400m because she was given a peach in the Karrakatta and on the turn, she was there to put them away. Just couldn’t quite and was nabbed late by Ex Sport Man. Draws soft again, so she’ll get every chance to see out the trip.
13 Awesome Rival (Bet Now: $23.00) is a knockout chance. On the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday over 1100m. Really liked the way she closed off her race from near the back of the ruck when third to Featherweight. The way she has raced in all three career outings suggest she’ll want more ground, she gets that here, and has upside.
Race 9. (19:00) Salinger (rs1mw) 1400m
3 Amelia’s Contraire (Bet Now: $5.50) on top in the get out. Simon Miller trained mare that was a month between runs and back to 1200m when racing here two weeks ago. Wasn’t suited by the slow tempo but liked the way she closed her race off when third to Glascow Girl. Gets back up in trip and can settle much closer in the run from the good draw.
1 Tinsnip (Bet Now: $7.00) has a bit on these in terms of class, but with that, he does rise a fair bit in weight, so that is the knock with him, but he is bursting to win a race. Ran over 1500m here a fortnight ago and worked home with real purpose late in the piece when second to Majinika. Hard to beat back to this level.
6 Mini Winnie (Bet Now: $11.00) is putting together a tidy record. But it’s mainly at Bunbury so the question with him is can he translate it to Ascot. His recent efforts have been strong, winning his past two, but they have come at Bunbury. He’ll need luck from the gate, but if he brings his Bunbury form, he’s a knockout chance.
