A nine race program has been assembled for Caulfield on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

4 Set The Sails (Bet Now: $1.80 TOP ODDS) looks a smart horse and confident he can atone for the debut defeat. Should have won when debuting at Geelong. No fault of Jamie Kah. Just got into a nasty spot with dead wood around and by the time he got out, it was too late, but another stride and he wins. Confident he can make amends here.

Danger

I don’t think 1 Sudoko (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) beat much on debut at Ballarat, in fact the runner up was comfortably held earlier this week on the Ballarat Synthetic, but on face value, he was impressive. Sat off the speed before Currie edged closer on the turn and once he pushed the button, away he went and he was dominant. Keen to see how he he goes against his stablemate, who I think could be the Taj Rossi horse.

Long Shot

8 All About Eve (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) takes on a couple of nice youngsters here but she might well be a nice youngster in her own right. Strong finale from her to win on debut at Bendigo, and over the overall time stacked up pretty well relative to the day. Draws soft and the extra 100m should be fine.

Race 2. (12:20) Neds Filter Form Handicap (78) 1100m

3 Maha (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) has a touch of quality about her and I think she can resume a winner. Didn’t exactly set the world on fire during the Spring, but the highlight was a second to September Run, which was A1 3YO Spring form. Good trial to get ready and should land in a plum spot from the draw.

Danger

14 Award Winner (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is suited at 1100m. Thought there was plenty of merit to her win at Pakenham last time out. Was wide no cover on speed but still found when required and was strong to the line in winning, just. Harder here, but now she has a win on the board, she could well go on with it.

Long Shot

Back to 1100m I like for Tassie raider 11 Thunberg (Bet Now: $19.00 TOP ODDS). Sat on speed over 1200m at Hobart last time out and tried very hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for second to Algernon. That was her first run in seven weeks so has improvement to come and back in trip I think is a positive.

Race 3. (12:55) Neds Same Race Multi Handicap (78) 1200m

13 Wilmot Pass (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) on top for me. Team Freedman trained gelding that has been pretty good in two runs back from a spell. Caught the eye fresh at Caulfield behind Li’l Kontra. He then went to Ballarat where he got well back in the run and was never really a winning factor but liked the way he finished his race off. Third up, hard fit now and third up last prep was 1.5L off Dexelation, which reads well for this.

Danger

2 Pintoff (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is a very progressive galloper for Richard Cully that can win again. Strong win from him three weeks ago here, aided by a lovely steer from Jamie Kah, who gave the horse a peach just off the speed and was able to finish over the top to get the job done. He can continue his winning ways.

Long Shot

14 Promotions (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) resumed in the race Pintoff race mentioned above. Didn’t get the best of luck in the straight but at the same time, had his chance. He’ll take good improvement from that and drawn out, he should get three wide cover and launch late.

Race 4. (13:30) Michael Andrew AO Handicap (84) 1200m

3 Bons Abroad (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) is a mare that is absolutely flying at the moment for the Corstens camp at Cranbourne. Backed as if unbeatable when racing down the straight at Flemington two weeks ago and the market got it spot on. Slow tempo meant she could produce her turn of foot, which was the best in the race, and she bolted in. Confident she can continue her purple patch.

Danger

10 Kalkarni Royale (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) is hard to beat. Disappointing resumption I thought at Sandown but bounced back at Warrnambool with a solid second to a pretty handy horse in Ocular when well supported late. Third up last prep was 1.9L away in a Stakes race, so think she’s a leading contender.

Long Shot

7 Score (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is a John Sadler trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since Boxing Day at this track/distance when getting the job done, largely thanks to a sweet steer from Nash Rawiller. Recent jumpout here was pretty good to the eye…might need the run but she has quality when right.

Race 5. (14:10) Enable Professional Services Handicap (84) 1400m

14 Taksu (Bet Now: $3.20) looks the one to beat provided he does everything right. He wanted to lay in badly at Ballarat last time out and that no doubt cost him the win when a narrow second to a pretty solid animal in Reckoning. Maps to get a perfect run and if he puts it all together, I think he’s the safe option.

Danger

4 Adelaide Ace (Bet Now: $4.20) is hard to trust, but if you can trust the resumption, he’ll take beating here. That first up run came at Warrnambool where he got back in the run but charged late, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Ammoudi Bay. Good record at Caulfield and draws soft.

Long Shot

6 Biometric (Bet Now: $9.00) is four weeks between runs for the Hayes/Dabernig camp since racing over 1400m at Sandown. He got back in the run but liked the way he finished his race off late in the piece behind the in form and progressive galloper Dice Roll. Has raced well with a break between runs like this previously so I’m giving him respect.

Race 6. (14:50) Cyclotek Handicap 2000m

3 Hypnos… (Bet Now: $4.80) how didn’t he win last time? Once he was presented, he looked to be absolutely trucking and it was a case of how far. Was it a lack of fitness, as the stable said post race, or did he turn it up? Whatever the case, he was plain late so take him on trust I’d suggest and I certainly wouldn’t take anything like he was last time. His best is good enough. Just rather see it than back it.

Danger

4 Yonkers… (Bet Now: $2.15) has been up a while but is holding his form really well. Few weeks between runs since racing in the Wagga Cup where he got back in the run and took a while to get into his work but finished off with real purpose, just missing out on picking Inverloch. That form reads well for this.

Long Shot

1 Another Dollar (Bet Now: $5.50) can be dangerous. Didn’t think she was too bad in defeat behind Declares War. Got a fair way back in the run and was never really a winning threat, but did make up ground late. If she can sit closer in the run from the good draw, she’ll be a threat at odds.

Race 7. (15:30) Ontoit Handicap (84) 1600m

Back Me

I don’t think 14 Relucent (Bet Now: $6.00) wants the rain forecast Wednesday and Thursday, but concede he’s going well for Chris Waller and is nearing a win. Was 2100m back to 1800m when racing several weeks ago at Hawkesbury. Really liked the way he finished his race off behind Luncies. Back in trip some more, but a strong speed will ensure he’ll be one of the strongest late.

Danger

3 Spring Choice (Bet Now: $4.80) should be suited here. Team Corstens have this guy ticking along very nicely after the long layoff. Lovely ride from Lachie King saw him bolt up five weeks ago at Sandown, building the revs from the back and was much too good. He’s got upside to come and finds a winnable race.

Long Shot

I’m interested in 6 Osaka (Bet Now: $4.60), a Kiwi raider who is putting together a tidy little record. Hasn’t raced since his resumption at Te Rapa back three weeks ago where he showed a lovely turn of foot when asked to go and was impressive late in winning. Form around him is being ticked off time and and time again and have to respect the stable to come over.

Race 8. (16:10) Neds Toolbox Handicap 1600m

1 First Accused (Bet Now: $6.00) is a smart three year old for Scott Brunton who comes across from Tassie with a pretty solid record. Ran in the Autumn Classic over 1400m at Hobart last time out and he led throughout, spanking them and winning nicely. Harder here, but proven at this trip and beyond, and has the right racing pattern.

Danger

Just how good is 5 Riot And Rose? (Bet Now: $2.60) 2/2 to start his career for Peter Moody, winning on debut at Moe on Anzac Day, then spanked them at Pakenham and ran really good time. Tricky draw to overcome, but he might be pretty good and potentially too good that the gate isn’t a negative.

Long Shot

2 Rathlin (Bet Now: $12.00) is bursting to win another race. Looked like it would come at Flemington on Anzac Day when he hit the front and looked home, but he was nabbed right on the post by Real Sensation. I think he is back on track to an extent and finds a very winnable race here if he holds his current form.

Race 9. (16:40) Catanach's Jewellers Handicap 1100m

Back Me

7 Sartorial Splendor (Bet Now: $4.20) has sustained speed and that is such a good recipe for short course racing. That was clearly the case on Anzac Day when leading throughout. He looked as if he would be strongly challenged but he found when required and safely held a margin on the peg. He’s flying and is a safe option.

Danger

9 Muntaseera (Bet Now: $2.45) does look the map horse, and with the lightweight, can see why she appeals. Thrown in the deep end in the Sangster where she didn’t measure up but she isn’t a Group l horse. This looks more her level, stalks Sartorial Splendor and is hard to beat.

Long Shot

3 Ashlor (Bet Now: $15.00) is three weeks between runs since resuming at Caulfield. He was near the speed throughout and tried his heart out, as he always does. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when a close up fourth to Streetcar Stranger. Is a two time second up winner and is just a tough nut. Must for multiples.
