A bumper ten race program has been set down for Rosehill on Saturday where it is San Domenico Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

I’ll take a chance with 5 Sky Diamonds (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS). The majority of these don’t have great winning strike rates, including this girl, but I think she’s flying. She was excellent at Moruya last time, working home with real purpose late in the piece when third, producing some of the better late splits of the meeting. 1400m, firmer deck, I think she’ll only run well.

1 Zaru (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is flying for Joseph Burges and is looking to make it back-to-back Highway wins, getting the victory here a fortnight back, where an inside gate was used to advantage, he got out in time and got the bob of the head to win, just. I think with a conservative steer, 1400m will be fine, and has good upside.

3 Daksha (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) deserves another look. He ran in the Highway win two weeks back here when wide no cover for the trip and tiring late behind Zaru, which followed strong market support. The first up run was super and if you can forgive the last start, he’s clearly in the mix.

2 Frumos… (Bet Now: $1.55 TOP ODDS) dear me. If you were on her two weeks ago here, apologies for bringing it up. She should have bolted in, but had zero luck, with Bowman riding to suit the pattern, but it just didn’t work out. She’s a Stakes class mare and with clear air this time around, fair track (hopefully), good luck beating her.

4 Hope In Your Heart (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is a mare that has returned well it appears. She resumed behind Riduna a fortnight back here and was another that had zero luck in the straight, where she was bolting for clear air but it didn’t eventuate. Up in trip, with a clear run, she’s certainly capable.

6 Air To Air (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) has found that winning feeling again…can she go on with it? That win came at Newcastle three weeks ago where she looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted, giving her rivals an absolute spanking in an arrogant win. If she can bring that to town, she’ll take beating.

1 Born A King (Bet Now: $2.60 TOP ODDS) looks the one they have to beat. Three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Flemington where he got off the speed and cut back inside, finding the line strongly when second to Lyrical Lad. Fitter and up to 2000m, with the 3kg claim…I think he’s one of the better bets on the card.

9 Rondino (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is racing as if 2000m will be okay for him. He ran over 1800m here a fortnight back and had little luck at a vital stage in what turned out to be a messy race won by Raging Bull. He was strong late when clear so I don’t think an extra furlong will be an issue for him.

Fitter and up to 2000m are two big ticks for 6 Corncrake (Bet Now: $18.00 TOP ODDS). Matty Smith trained stayer that resumed over 1800m here two weeks back where the pattern was clearly against him but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind Raging Bull. Might want one more, but he has a touch of class/quality.

I like 14 Herb (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) here. He doesn’t have the high profile of some of these, but he is a horse with good talent and third up from a spell, should just about be at peak fitness. He was wide throughout last time and loved the way he kept finding when a narrow second. Tinkering with the head gear, J Collett on from a soft gate, I think he’s worth an each way speck.

2 Noble Soldier (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) commands respect. Team Price trained gelding that ran behind Oakfield Arrow here a fortnight back and he was very good against the pattern, working home with purpose late when running second. Back to 1300m I find interesting but he always commands respect at Midway level.

7 Nictock (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) will give a sight from the front. He did that two weeks back in the Oakfield Arrow Midway mentioned above but 1400m just found him out when a tiring third. If the track is playing towards those on speed, and if he gets control, he’ll take some catching.

8 Grace And Harmony (Bet Now: $14.00) has come back in really good order and second up, at the mile, she’s the one to beat. She resumed over 1300m at Randwick three weeks ago and I thought she was excellent against the race shape when a narrow second to Yukon. More genuine tempo this time around, she can bounce back into the winners list.

5 True Detective (Bet Now: $9.50) is usually around the mark in these kind of races. He ran here a fortnight back and tried hard in a solidly run race but couldn’t quite go on with it behind a potential Cups aspirant, Surefire. More gentle tempo this time around, he commands some level of respect.

1 Angel Of Truth (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Team Hawkes trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Sydney Cup when at the end of his prep and couldn’t see out the two miles. Two trials leading in have been strong and he does sprint well fresh, so watch the market and see what it does with him.

Normal luck in his corner and I’m quite keen here on 4 Quick Tempo (Bet Now: $3.90). He was the run of the meeting two weeks ago here, working home strongly out wide on the track behind a potential Stakes class mare, Shades Of Rose. J Mac was booked for the ride early on, which tells me that the stable are confident, as is the rider.

5 Fire (Bet Now: $1.90) is being talked up as Masked Crusader 2.0…which is madness, but he does have good talent. Sharp fresh win at Sandown before going to the Flemington and the striaght course where he got lost late and threw it away when second to Chain Of Lightning. Back on a bending track, he’s the main and I dare say only threat.

6 Van Giz (Bet Now: $26.00) is three weeks between runs for Bjorn Baker since resuming over 1000m at Randwick where she was doing a bit of work early in a truly run race and condition just gave way behind Maotai. Fitter and up in trip, her best is good enough to be dangerous at odds.

Hard to get away from 8 Kalino (Bet Now: $3.60). Chris Waller trained gelding that was given a peach by J Mac to win here two weeks ago, getting a dream run on speed before being clicked up and he was always in control of the win. Similar line up here, no reason why he can’t go on with it.

I’ve been trying to figure out what Chris Waller has in mind for 14 Waterford (Bet Now: $3.60), and IMO, potentially The Big Dance via the Port Macquarie Cup on October 7, a race that Waller targets. He’s a very promising import that resumes and clearly has the most upside…just a matter of how fit he is. Watch the market.

5 Canasta (Bet Now: $15.00) will jump on the bunny and run a bold race. He did that a fortnight back here and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite fend off Kalino, who had hard fitness and the suck run to finish best, just. He’s getting towards peak fitness now and has the right racing style.

I think 2 Basquiat (Bet Now: $5.50) is here to run a belter. Resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since the JJ Atkins when a game fifth to Sheeza Belter in what I think will be a hot form race for the Spring. He has looked to jog in a couple of trials and we saw last Saturday with Zougotcha that a spell in the Sunshine State can do wonders. I think that might be the case with this guy and J Mac at 54kg…that screams out this horse could be a moral.

11 Conqueror (Bet Now: $3.50) is an interesting horse. He resumed three weeks ago at Randwick where he got too far back in the run but made up solid headway late behind impressive winner Arnaqueur. Has had a tick over trial since and IMO, that tells me the horse is thriving and needed a trial to take some freshness away. Hard to beat.

4 Lethal Thoughts (Bet Now: $8.50) is a very promising colt for the Maher/Eustace camp that resumes. He looks a 2000m+ horse so I think he could be a Spring Champion candidate. He did a good job as a juvenile and was excellent in the JJ Atkins. His trials have been sharp and will be strong late.

I am very wary of 5 Nettuno (Bet Now: $5.00) for Tony Gollan, who dodged the main part of the Brisbane Winter to be kept on ice for the Spring. Ended last prep on a high when winning the Ken Russell at the Gold Coast, remaining unbeaten, a race which included subsequent Group l winner Sheeza Belter. Trial win was quite sharp and stable finds Bowman.

1 Best Of Bordeaux (Bet Now: $2.05) looks the class of the field and I think that just about gets him home despite the weight. He was one of the better juveniles last season, winning 2/2 before a gutsy on speed second to Fireburn in the Golden Slipper. Trial was solid enough to my eye, but he has such a good racing pattern and is proven at this track/distance having won the Silver Slipper. The big knock is the map. It looks horrendous for him, and horrendous map at the Rosehill 1100m = nightmare.

9 Spacewalk (Bet Now: $8.50) is a colt with good talent for James Cummings. He had The Rosebud won a fortnight back but the horse wanted to lay in and threw the race away when beaten a lip by Zoukerino. If he does everything right, he has the engine under the hood to take this out.

Contender or pretender time for 8 Shades Of Rose (Bet Now: $1.75) IMO. If she’s indeed going to be a Stakes class horse, she’d want to be winning this because there are several Listed/Group lll types on display. Had the pattern in her corner a fortnight back and duly made a mess of them. Good test here, and does command respect…could I take silly short odds? No.

Well and truly cooking with gas if 3 Maotai (Bet Now: $4.40) can stretch his brilliance to 1200m. He resumed over 1000m at Randwick where he found a sit/sprint, but was able to relax with cover before getting a split and class came to the fore. Drawn wide, I think they have to slide forward. If he can harness his energy, he’ll take beating.

6 Dream Circle (Bet Now: $21.00) is a hard horse to catch but his best is clearly good enough. He ran two weeks back here where the race shape wasn’t quite to his liking but he stuck on and wasn’t too bad late in defeat behind Conscript. He will love a drop of rain to hit the track and if he’s within range 400m out, I think he’s certainly good enough, so watch the earlier races and see if the track is playing fair.
