Dylan Kitts, the jockey of horse Hillsin, is under scrutiny after their performance at Worcester racecourse.
The conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle race raised concerns among stewards, leading to a 40-day ban for Hillsin and a subsequent inquiry by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA).
During the race, Hillsin, caught the attention of stewards as the horse “travelled strongly” in the home straight without showing any signs of being urged for a finishing effort.
Kitts reported that Hillsin made respiratory noises and attributed the horse’s restricted performance to veering to the right.
Stewards referred Kitts to the BHA, and Hillsin has been suspended from racing for 40 days.
Chris Honour, the horse’s trainer, expressed his disappointment with the situation, but clarified that the horse is not at the center of controversy.
He emphasized that he would never instruct someone not to win and shared the distressing impact the incident had on his family.
Honour defended his training methods, affirming their commitment to the welfare of the horses.
The BHA’s investigation will shed light on the race and determine if any rules were violated.
As the focus turns to Kitts, the jockey’s handling and performance will be closely examined to ensure fair play and adherence to the sport’s ethical standards.
