Mathew Scorse the father of fallen jockey Lachlan Scorse has released an encouraging update this afternoon.
Mathew Scorse said his son has woken from his induced coma and was responding to his parents.
He remains in ICU in a serious condition with his condition improving.
The distressing incident unfolded during the Graff At Kitchwin Hills Class 3 Handicap (1262m) when Balzando, ridden by Scorse, tragically broke down.
Lachlan Scorse, a newcomer to race riding with just four months of experience, was the first jockey to hit the ground. He required sedation while drifting in and out of consciousness.
The last race of the meeting was called off in the aftermath of the incident.
