Race 1. (23:30) Norfolk Stakes 1006m
Hard to get away from 13 Whistlejacket (Bet Now: $1.85). Aidan O’Brien trained colt that is a close relation to former top galloper Little Big Bear. Debuted with a second over 1200m to Cowardofthecounty before coming back to 1000m at Curragh, firmer footing, and he made an absolute mess of them, winning by a space. Could have run again over 1200m but stable are looking for the kill over 1000m.
10 Shareholder (Bet Now: $13.00) is a son of Not This Time that is just under two weeks between runs since debuting at Beverley where he got widest down the straight, had clear air and was trucking before being clicked up and looked to be doing it comfortably but in the end, it was just a win. Well bred, has improvement to come, watch the market.
14 Saturday Flirt (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Wesley Ward trained filly that comes here from the US after winning on debut at Keeneland over 1100m. She was just fair to begin with and was dragged back behind the group of speed demons before angling wider into clear air and finished best to score. Not a deep race that was but you do have to respect this stable when they bring them across.
Race 2. (00:05) King George V Stakes 2406m
13 Gallantly (Bet Now: $17.00) is the each way bet for me here. Aidan O’Brien trained colt that resumed with a second at Leopardstown before going to Chester where he was tucked in behind the speed and held up at times before angling clear and gee he let down with purpose to win well and was quite dominant late in the piece. That was over 2000m and off that, he’ll eat up 2400m.
3 Chantilly (Bet Now: $6.50) is a slight query at 2400m but he has the Aidan O’Brien polish. He ran over 2000m last time in the London Gold Cup at Newbury when near the speed throughout and he tried hard but just lacked the change up speed to go with them late in the piece when third to King’s Gambit. The query is the trip, but have to respect the stable and their placement.
9 Fouroneohfever (Bet Now: $11.00) deserves a crack at a race like this given how well he is racing. There was a lot of quality about his win at Chester last time. He sat on speed throughout before pairing off with the leader and drew clear, with this guy getting the better of the leader and was strong to the line, with the ears pricked. Scope for improvement, good racing style, in the mix.
Race 3. (00:45) Ribblesdale Stakes 2406m
2 Diamond Rain (Bet Now: $4.40) looks to have a bit on this lot. Charlie Appleby trained filly that won like a really good horse on debut over the mile here before going 2000m at Newbury where she was dominant late and quiet strong to the line in winning, lapping up the extra ground, and given how strong she was there, I don’t see the rise in trip again being an issue and with enormous upside, she’s the one for me.
13 You Got To Me (Bet Now: $4.60) can be an improver on firmer footing. She won the Oaks Trial at Lingfield before going to the Oaks at Epsom where she just somewhat floundered on the soft track and couldn’t really go with them late in the piece when fourth to Ezeliya, a filly regarded as a leading early contender for the Arc later in the year, so that form is clearly strong for this.
1 Danielle (Bet Now: $11.00) is a nice type for Team Gosden. She ran third to You Got To Me in the Oaks Trial. The winner had set up a winning break a fair way out and Danielle had to the donkey work in chasing. She tried hard but the burn of chasing just caught up with her late and she whacked to the line to run third. Kept on ice for this, she’s a knockout chance.
Race 4. (01:25) Gold Cup 4014m
3 Kyprios (Bet Now: $2.05) isn’t the horse he once was but I think he’s going well enough to take this out. 2/2 this time in and while he hasn’t been as dynamic as we know he once has been, he was still too good and impressive in winning. He’s the proven big time performer, he’ll eat up the trip, he has upside, class…the one to beat.
Very interested to see how 8 Vauban (Bet Now: $6.50) goes. He flopped as a dominant favourite in the Melbourne Cup and returned with a very good effort in the Yorkshire Cup when second to Giavellotto, beaten comfortably but did comfortably beat Gregory. Willie Mullins has eyes on the Melbourne Cup again with this horse and he’d love to make a statement with a win here.
1 Coltrane (Bet Now: $9.00) was runner up in this race last year and comes into this in winning form after taking out the Sagaro several weeks back, making it back to back wins in the race. Trip will be no issue for him, he’s in form and will just keep on all day. Can’t back him to win personally, but a win wouldn’t shock.
Race 5. (02:05) Britannia Stakes 1609m
13 Watcha Matey (Bet Now: $23.00) each way for me. Son of Land Force that comes back to the mile after winning over 1800m at Musselburgh last time where he had a suck run in transit near the speed before sliding into the race with purpose, going through his gears and he was quite strong late, winning by a space and did it with something in reserve. Confident he measures up against these.
19 Qirat (Bet Now: $8.00) is a very progressive three year old for Hugo Palmer that comes into this off the back of a first up win at Goodwood where he had a good run near the speed before angling into clear air and his change up speed was quite evident, the way he drew clear late. He’s heading in the right direction and one of the leading contenders.
23 Mickley (Bet Now: $9.00) rises a fair bit in grade/depth but he’s another on an upward spiral. He was a dominant all the way winner at Doncaster last time, proving quite strong to the line and on the line had his ears pricked, a sign he had more in the locker. Good racing style, he’ll take beating.
Race 6. (02:40) Hampton Court Stakes 2004m
7 King’s Gambit (Bet Now: $3.00) looks to pick himself. Harry Charlton trained youngster that debuted with an electric win in the London Gold Cup where his change up speed was something else, putting the race to bed in a couple of strides and he was quite arrogant on the line, beating Chantilly, who could frank the form earlier in the card. Only has to run up to that first up performance and he goes close to winning again.
5 First Look (Bet Now: $10.00) has to be given serious respect. He ran in the French Derby at Chantilly where he had the back of the eventual winner but just lacked the change up speed late in the piece but he stayed on quite well to run second. That form has to read well for a race like this. Gets respect from me.
8 Portland (Bet Now: $14.00) is an Aidan O’Brien trained colt that is in with a shout. Tough, gritty win over 2400m at Leopardstown last time where he was near the speed throughout and it looked as if he would win comfortably but in the end, he had to fight for it. That is why I think back to 2000m is ideal and he should be strong at the end.
Race 7. (03:15) Buckingham Palace Stakes 1408m
11 English Oak (Bet Now: $4.20) for me in the get out. Ed Walker trained galloper that resumed with a bang at Haydock. He had a suck run behind the leader before angling off its back and going through his gears before being clicked up properly by Murphy and he made a mess of them late in the piece. He was arrogant there and confident he can measure up against these.
18 Divine Libra (Bet Now: $7.50) has done little wrong in a 12 start career for Charlie Hills and is one of the leading contenders. He ran down the straight at Newmarket last time out where he was near the speed throughout and seemingly found the better ground on the outside fence. He tried hard and kicked on well but was nabbed late. Drawn out again, Ryan Moore steers, likeable.
5 Carrytheone (Bet Now: $27.00) won the race mentioned above and I thought the ride from Dobbs was 12/10. He got back in the pack before slicing his way through the field and gee he let down with purpose late when clear, savaging the line and just nabbing Divine Libra. Likely spots them a start again but should be launching at them late in the piece.
