Ashrun, raced by Australian Bloodstock, has been retired from racing. The France-bred galloper, who shone both in Europe and Australia, ends his career as an eight-year-old.
Ashrun’s highlights include a Group 3 win in France and elite placings in Germany. During the 2020 Spring Carnival, he won the G3 Hotham Handicap and finished midfield in the Melbourne Cup. After a three-year tendon injury hiatus, Ashrun made a remarkable comeback under trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, finishing fourth in the 2022 Melbourne Cup and winning the Listed Pakenham Cup this year. His last race was a seventh-place finish in the G1 Sydney Cup in April.
Australian Bloodstock’s Jamie Lovett praised the Maher team for their efforts, saying, “For the Maher team to get him back and to win a feature Cup and run fourth in a Melbourne Cup, it was just a really good story.”
Ashrun retires with five wins and five placings from 22 starts, earning over $1.2 million in prizemoney.
