Group 3 winner and dual Group 1 placegetter bound for Scone

Williamsburg will continue his career with Brett Cavanough after being bought by the canny Scone horseman and clients on Inglis Digital this week.

The Group 3 winner and Group 1 placegetter topped the Inglis Digital September (Early) Sale, which concluded on Wednesday, when sold for $455,000.

That is $15,000 less than what Tony Fung Investments paid for the son of Snitzel and Fenway as a yearling at Inglis Easter in 2021, with the gelding having since won more than $1 million on the track.

Along with the Group 3 TL Baillieu Handicap (1400m), Williamsburg won the Fernhill Mile (1600m) and Dulcify Stakes (1800m) at Listed level and was placed in both the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) and Rosehill Guineas (2000m).

A Rosehill winner over 1500m last month, he finished third in the Listed Rowley Mile at his most recent appearance and Cavanough believes he has many opportunities with the five-year-old over the next few months.

“He’s a good horse, he’s already proved that plenty of times, so I can’t wait to get him into the stables and see what we can achieve with him,” Cavanough said.

“A couple of private clients wanted a good horse and I think this is the perfect horse to target a race like The Big Dance with and even possibly the Melbourne Spring Carnival and then the Perth carnival.

“The Big Dance, a mile at Randwick (worth) $3 million, it ticks plenty of boxes for him. It’s just a matter of how we get him there and whether we end up there or not.

“I’m excited to have him and I’m confident we can have a lot of fun with him.”

Other horses to change hands on the Inglis offering included Zoustar mare Celestial Storm, who was bought by Perth interests for $170,000 and six-time winner Robusto, who sold to Darby Racing for $160,000 and will be transferred from Chris Waller to Bjorn Baker.

Kementari mare La Seule sold for $155,000 and South Of Houston $120,000, while a breeding right in Piereta was bought for $220,000.
