Leviathan owner Colin McKenna is considering a Cox Plate tilt with his rising star, Another Wil, after the five-year-old’s impressive first-up win at Caulfield last month. Currently the favourite for the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), Another Wil is set to race next week before heading to the Toorak. Depending on his performance, McKenna will decide whether to target the Cox Plate.
“He will race next week,” McKenna confirmed. “Then he will go to the Toorak. We will see how he is going, then he will probably go to the Cox Plate. It’s a bit exciting. It’s got us wound up a bit.”
Meanwhile, McKenna’s other rising star, Federer—a gelding by Dundeel out of Caulfield Cup winner Jameka—has won both starts dominantly. “He will start stepping up a bit, but we don’t want to put too much pressure on him,” McKenna said, while trainer Ciaron Maher remains undecided on specific plans for Federer.
