Apprentice jockey Ivy Lam was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital after sustaining a head injury in a race fall, which led to an early end to Monday’s Gawler meeting.
Lam was aboard Jacob’s Gate in the seventh race, when the horse seemed to stumble and abruptly dropped back through the field at the 700m mark.
The 23-year-old jockey was unseated during the incident and quickly received medical attention from on-site paramedics.
As a result, the remainder of the event was cancelled before the final race.
Further updates are expected soon.
