Damian Lane (Private Life): Think he’d won: “Yeah, got desperately close on the line, so, yeah, I was just hoping. I thought I’d held on, but I never want to crow it.”
Winning the Guineas: “Yeah, great. It’s obviously a race with great prestige. I’ve been close a few times, so to win one is great. And just to repay a bit of faith in Chris Waller, Charlie Duckworth, and the ownership group is a big thrill.”
Beating the hot favourite: “I mean, every horse is beatable, so you just have to go out with a mindset of riding your horse the best you can, and that’s all you can do. You can only paddle your own canoe and let the rest look after themselves.”
Celebrations: “I’ve got a light ride at Seymour tomorrow, so I don’t think I’ll be doing much, but we’re catching up with my wife and quite a celebration, the two of us, so it’ll be nice.”
Billy Egan (Feroce): “Very brave run. He still does a little bit wrong early on the bridle, but he was strong through the line.”
Michael Dee (Evaporate): “A great run. I think if the track was not as biased and fence dominated, he gets a little bit closer at the finish otherwise he’s run a great race.”
James McDonald (Broadsiding): “He made good ground late.”
Ethan Brown (Public Attention): “Great run. I thought he acquitted himself well but he’s not the finished product yet. He’ll be better next prep, but I was very proud of his effort.”
Ben Melham (Angel Capital): “His wheels spun a long way from home. From the half-mile he was in trouble and raced like a tired horse. He’s probably off to the paddock.
Jamie Mott (Vianarra): “A really good run. He’s obviously still a maiden but I thought it was a super effort and the 1800-metre three-year-old race at Flemington will suit him.”
Mark Zahra (Tropicus): “I think he’s a short course horse. The mile was a bit too far.”
John Allen (Rue De Royale): “Possibly didn’t see out the mile, but he still underperformed.”
Jye McNeil (Wanaruah): “The start didn’t go well for him today. He was awkwardly away and the awkwardly placed, got over-racing and then didn’t finish off.”
Blake Shinn (Mayfair): “On face value he was disappointing. He didn’t have the speed to go forward early. I just rode him him to travel after that, but he was beaten a long way out. Something may not quite be right.”
