The Ascot Carnival continues this Saturday where it is Fairetha Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (15:34) Glenroy Chaff (Bm66+) 2200m
5 Affluential (Bet Now: $SP.00) can make himself #1 seed for the Perth Cup with a good showing here IMO and I am confident he will. Resumed two weeks ago over the mile here where he was near last in the run and while he wasn’t there to play, gee he closed off with purpose. Fitter, up in trip and the big lead is Pike has jumped off Simply to ride this, I dare say with the Perth Cup in mind. Keen.
1 Simply (Bet Now: $SP.00) is creeping up in the relative weights but Team Williams has him flying at present. He has won three on the bounce, the latest being a fortnight back where he looked a good thing on paper and under a confident steer from Pike, he duly saluted. Has to be respected.
4 Stop Dreaming (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran sixth to Simply two weeks back here. He just got too far out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat I thought. If he can settle closer, or be within range, he’s dangerous at odds.
Race 2. (16:14) Magic Millions Plate 1100m
1 Strideaway (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a filly I have had time for since she trialled and she hasn’t let me down in two runs. Total forgive on debut when wide no cover before going here again two weeks ago where she got a decent enough run in transit, angled wider and finished best to score. Hard to beat again.
2 Hold My Wine (Bet Now: $SP.00) jumps on the bunny and takes running down after debuting here a fortnight back when on speed and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite see it through when nabbed late by Strideaway. Good racing style, better for the run under the belt, he appeals.
3 Pembeton (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fourth to Strideaway two weeks back here. He was on debut and had a suck run in transit just off the speed. He was never a winning threat, but he kept on and was solid enough in defeat. Better for the run, I think he’s a first four threat.
Race 3. (16:54) Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly) 1200m
1 Indie Ruler (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Team Gangemi trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since August 17 when a game second over 1000m at Belmont after leading, proving no match late for Silver Eye. Good racing style, trialled very well for the first run for the new stable and will be out of trouble.
2 Climb On Top (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Demerit that resumes for Team Pearce. He hasn’t raced since June 29 at Belmont when wide throughout and just couldn’t get involved when down the track behind Bird’s The Word. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and has trialled nicely for the return.
7 Empress Of India (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. She ran over this track/distance two weeks back when near the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Ain’t No Other Man. Tricky draw, but with luck, she can run top four.
Race 4. (17:33) Mca Polytrack (Rs1mw) 1200m
4 Richanco (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in a five start career for Team Pearce and looks one of the hardest to beat. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when attempting to lead throughout and giving a strong kick but was nabbed late by Regal Statue. If he can overcome the tricky gate, he’ll take running down.
9 First Beach (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been pretty good in two starts/wins this time in and commands respect as he comes to town. Strong on speed win at Bunbury fresh to break the maiden tag before going to Geraldton where they rode with a sit and he reacted, letting down with good change up speed. Hard to beat with Pike on.
6 Comic Hero (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Simon Miller trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since June 3 at Belmont when finding wet ground and struggled behind Sentimental Belle, who was flying at the time. Given a good break and has trialled well for the return.
Race 5. (18:10) Wa Racehorse Owners' Association (Bm72+) 1200m
5 Antique Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1200m, which I find interesting, but she has come back in really good order. She ran over 1400m here two weeks ago when wide with cover before angling wider and let down with purpose in a good effort but was no match late for Cosmic Crusader. Back to 1200m, Pike on, she rates highly.
2 Ain’t No Other Man (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Team Casey and commands respect. He has won two on the bounce, the latest being a fortnight back at this track/distance on speed and trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win. Good test here, but should measure up.
1 Bruce Almighty (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a veteran for Neville Parnham that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since April 6 over the mile here in the Old Comrade where he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. Better suited over a touch further but can sprint well fresh and has a touch of quality.
Race 6. (18:50) Luckygray Stakes 1800m
3 Buckets Ridge (Bet Now: $3.40) is putting his hand up for the Perth Cup and is heading in the right direction. He won the Northam Cup last time out, giving them a start and a beating, launching late from last and producing a brilliant finale to score. That was his first run in six weeks so fitter and up to 1800m, he takes beating.
2 Starry Heights (Bet Now: $8.00) is another with eyes towards the Perth Cup but has class. He has been kept on ice since taking out the Kalgoorlie Cup, given a peach by Pike and was far too good for them. Tick over trial was quiet and although back to 1800m is a negative, he should be strong late.
7 Another Chino (Bet Now: $31.00) is one to be entertained for exotics. He ran down the track in the Kalgoorlie Cup when leading, copping heat and dropped out to finish over ten lengths away. If he finds the front and gets some form of control, he is good enough to be dangerous at odds.
Race 7. (19:30) Fairetha Stakes 1400m
It’s been a little while since Bob Peters has a potential jet but I do think that 7 Olympic Park (Bet Now: $4.20) is the jet. His two starts/wins to start his career have been out of this world. The win two weeks ago…it was that of a Group l horse IMO. Another tricky gate to overcome, but I think he’ll give them a start, a beating, and confirm himself as a star.
11 The Merryman (Bet Now: $9.00) has done little wrong in two career outings and commands respect for Simon Miller. Impressive debut win at Northam over 1300m before going to this track/distance three weeks ago when held up at times but was good late when eventually clear. He has talent and confident he runs well.
1 Big Shots (Bet Now: $51.00) is facing D-Day to see if he’s any good. He resumed in the Belgravia two weeks back where he had a suck run in behind but didn’t really finish off and was on the plain side. Jury is out on him IMO but he gets a kind map to once again get every chance. Last chance territory.
Race 8. (20:10) Lee Steere Stakes 1400m
7 Magnificent Andy (Bet Now: $4.50) is back on track. He ran two weeks ago in the Eurythmic when specked at odds and he ran up to that support, working home strongly late in the piece behind Comfort Me, who had control in front and was too good. He’s found positive form and he can go on with it.
4 Comfort Me (Bet Now: $5.00) has returned in great order and will land on speed. He resumed in the race mentioned above where he led throughout, got control and gave nothing else a look in to win quite impressively. Looks like he will lead again and with a soft lead, he’s hard to get past.
10 Alaskan God (Bet Now: $34.00) is a very interesting runner. He hasn’t raced since contesting this race last year when down the track behind Valour Road. He hasn’t really fired since his 2022 WA Derby win but his recent trial was quite good and he can pull out a run fresh.
Race 9. (20:45) South African Airways (Bm66+) 1400m
8 Speak To Me (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when ridden with intent to sit on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch late behind Olympic Park. Pike is on and I think with a more patient steer, he’ll be far more effective.
9 Bondi Plunge (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like 1400m suits for Dan Morton. She ran three weeks ago over 1200m here when back off the speed and kept finding the line without threatening in a good effort behind Regal Statue. Up to 1400m I do like and this isn’t an overly deep contest.
2 Above The Peg (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Simon Miller trained gelding that is third up. He ran over this track/distance two weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept making ground and was good in defeat. If he can settle closer, be within range, he’s dangerous for sure.
