With the 2024 Melbourne Cup to be run on Tuesday 5th November we take a look at a likely field for this years edition of the race with the final field to be announced on Derby Day.
The market for the race has undergone quite a big shuffle in the past few days with emphatic Cox Plate winner Via Sistina racing to the top of the Melbourne Cup odds with connections seriously considering running the star mare in the race.
Prior to Via Sistina’s win International raider Jan Brueghel topped the market with online betting sites but he now sits on the third line of betting at $7.50 behind Via Sistina ($5.50) and Buckaroo who has also shorted in markets with his form around the Cox Plate winner.
Geelong Cup winner Onesmoothoperator is the only other horse in single figures at $8.00 in what is again tipped to be another wide open Melbourne Cup field.
