The Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington is shaping up to be a thrilling contest, with a strong field likely to feature some of the top middle-distance horses. Early market favourites Via Sistina and Eliyass headline the potential runners.
Veteran galloper Young Werther will make his third appearance in the race, having finished second in 2021 and third in 2022, with Jye McNeil booked for the ride.
Chris Waller is expected to nominate multiple runners, including Via Sistina, Atishu, Buckaroo, and Francesco Guardi, with Damian Lane to ride Via Sistina and Mark Zahra aboard Atishu.
Circle Of Fire, last season’s Sydney Cup winner, will have John Allen in the saddle for his second-up run, while Ben Melham will ride Place Du Carrousel, who gets in under set weights and penalties conditions. Eliyass, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, will skip the G1 Metropolitan at Randwick, with Ethan Brown to ride at Flemington.
Via Sistina heads the market with online betting sites at $3.30 in what is tipped to be a wide open edition of the race.
