Chase The Rainbow wins 2011 Stutt Stakes

Chase The Rainbow got his Caulfield Guineas campaign back on track with a come from behind win in the Group Two Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Trainer Rick Hore-Lacy withdrew Chase The Rainbow from last Saturdayโ€™s Guineas Prelude because he believed the track was too hard.

With heavy rain in Melbourne on Friday, the Moonee Valley surface was slow and forgiving.

Sent out the $2.60 favourite, Chase The Rainbow unleashed a powerful finish from back in the field to overhaul Cute Emily ($5) and win by 1-1/4 lengths.

โ€œI was confident he would handle the track,โ€ Hore-Lacy said.

โ€œIt was tempting to ride him closer but I told stewards we were not going to change his pattern.

โ€œItโ€™s on to the Guineas and the Derby now.โ€

Chase The Rainbow was ridden by Dean Yendall who topped the Victorian jockeysโ€™ table last season.

Although he rides a host of winners around the state, Yendall does not get as many opportunities in the metropolitan area as he deserves but hopes he has found the horse to change that.

โ€œI would say he is the best horse I have sat on and I hope he takes me places,โ€ he said.

Chase The Rainbow is the equal third favourite with Manawanui at $6.50 for the Caulfield Guineas on October 8 with Helmet heading the market at $2.80 ahead of Smart Missile ($3.40).
