New Zealand runner Jimmy Choux has won today’s Group 1 Rosehill Guineas ahead of Retrieve in second and Shamrocker in third position.
New Zealand Derby winner Jimmy Choux scored a fast-finishing win in the Group One Rosehill Guineas on Saturday.
Trained by John Bary and ridden by Jonathan Riddell, the Thorn Park colt scored his 10th win from 17 starts and his fifth in succession to take his prizemoney past $2 million.
The Peter Snowden-trained Retrieve set a solid tempo in front with Jimmy Choux travelling sweetly in fifth place until turning for home.
Retrieve gave a kick at the top of the straight but Jimmy Choux, dropping back from the 2400m of his last-start New Zealand Derby win on March 5 to the 2000m of the Guineas, immediately charged out after him.
He sprinted quickly over the last 200m and scored decisively from Retrieve with the only filly in the field, Shamrocker, finishing third.
“I just knew he was going to pick them up,” Riddell said.
“It’s a bit more of a relief actually.
“It’s pretty emotional stuff.
“He’s the best horse I’ve ever ridden.”
It was Jimmy Choux’s third win at the elite level after his New Zealand Derby success and his victory in the New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) in November.
