Warwick Farm horseman Guy Walter landed his second Group One feature of the day when classy filly Streama treated her rivals with disdain in the Flight Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Beautifully ridden by Hugh Bowman, the daughter of 2005 Golden Slipper winner Stratum scored by 6-1/4 lengths from Melbourne filly Hallowell Belle with Dowager Queen a short neck away third.
It was Streama’s fourth win from eight starts which have also resulted in three placings for prize money in excess of $550,000.
The three-year-old went into the 1600m Flight Stakes as the winner of the last two legs of the Princess Series, the Furious Stakes (1400m) and Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) in which she raced on the pace on both occasions.
On Saturday, Bowman allowed her time to find her feet from her awkward alley and she settled fifth, three wide but with cover.
When the jockey asked Streama for an effort in the straight she simply bounded away from her opposition.
“She’s good,” Bowman said.
“I knew she’d be better if she got a genuine pace and got back.
“She showed you what she could do in that final furlong (200m).”
