2022 The Everest Replay

2022 The Everest Post Race Horse Ratings

1. Giga Kick: What a star. What a training performance and what a ride. He got back in the run and looked in a tricky spot on the turn but with Willow, he found clear air and let down with an unbelievable finale. The “Good Bloke Card” fits very nicely with both Clayton Douglas and Craig Williams.

Rating: 10/10

2. Private Eye: Get a bucket and vomit if you were on him. Could not have been ridden any better by Avdulla and was hailed as the winner when he came off the back of Nature Strip but was bloused on the peg by a star three year old. Outstanding ride, outstanding performance. Just found one better.

Rating: 9/10

3. Mazu: What an amazing run this and in hindsight, if he draws a decent gate, he wins the race. He was three wide no cover for the trip yet still had the hide to finish his race off as well as he did. If that hasn’t busted him, he’s the one to beat in The Everest next year.

Rating: 9/10

4. Nature Strip: Brave in defeat. Did a stack of work on speed and beat off the two inside him, but was left a sitting shot. Pre race, the wide gate looked a blessing. Post race, it cost him dearly.

Rating: 7/10

5. Jacquinot: Massive effort. He was tardy to begin but tried to get on the back of Private Eye. Just lacked the change up speed when asked but he picked up and was very good late. He’s a star colt in his own right.

Rating: 7/10

6. Overpass: Overpass got into a lovely spot just behind the speed and was there to be a threat at the top of the straight. Just lacked the polish at the top level and the toughness to go with them but was brave.

Rating: 6/10

7. Kementari: He got back in the run and was chasing from the outset but picked up and was solid late between runners. He’s not up to this level but a definite pass mark.

Rating: 6/10

8. Shades Of Rose: She tried her guts out. Chasing from a fair way out and first look at the big boys, she could have spat the dummy out but kept on. Brave effort.

Rarting: 5/10

9. Masked Crusader: He was gone after one stride when bombing the start by several lengths. He made up some ground but was never threatening, as is the story of his life. His barrier manners will ensure he won’t be winning big races.

Rating: 4/10

10. Joyful Fortune: I actually thought he didn’t disgrace himself. He was second up off a midweek win, copped all the heat on speed and gee he was brave. Yes, safely held, but I thought he’d finish tailed off last. Good effort.

Rating: 4/10

11. Eduardo: Jumped well and wanted to lead comfortably but Joyful Fortune kicked up to hold him out and that sealed his fate, but I think it also seals his fate that he’ll never beat Nature Strip at 1200m and will never win a big race at 1200m against the big boys/girls.

Rating: 2/10

12. Ingratiating: He was back near last in the run alongside Jacquinot but when push came to shove, he struggled and was a beaten horse a fair way out. Godolphin need to take the Blinkers off with The Everest. If they actually want to win the race, pick their best sprinter, not the one that best suits a potential stud CV.

Rating: 1/10
