Talented NSW sprinter Youthful Jack has given new trainer Adam Trinder his second stakes success in the Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes at Hobart and will try for a third at Launceston in 10 days.
Taree trainer Ross Stitt, who owns the six-year-old gelding, sent him down to Trinder, the former top jumps jockey in Melbourne, for suitable weight-for-age races over the Tasmanian summer carnival.
Youthful Jack is unbeaten in two starts in Tasmania for his new trainer having won the Listed Premium Sprint (1200m) at Launceston on February 1.
He will now try for the hat-trick in the Listed $100,000 Tatt’s Group George Adams Plate (1600m) under lights at Launceston on February 22.
“It makes a difference when you work with sharp instruments,” Trinder said.
Trinder gave riding away after he won the 2010 Grand National Steeplechase at Sandown on Morsonique, moved back to Tasmania and has been training for 14 months.
Stitt, who prepared Precise Timing to win the 2006 Launceston Cup, decided to send Youthful Jack to Trinder as he rode Precise Timing in trackwork in the lead-up to his Tasmanian success.
Veteran NSW horseman Robert Thompson, who rode Precise Timing to win the Launceston Cup, has travelled south to ride Youthful Jack in both his recent wins.
On Sunday Youthful Jack showed his class to beat Rave Night and Life To The Full in the 1400m event.
Youthful Jack, who contested the Group One Randwick Guineas (1600m) as a three-year-old, has won 15 and been placed in another 10 of 45 starts for $879,000 in stake money.
Stitt intends to take the gelding back home to Taree after his summer campaign, give him a break and then get him ready for the Ramornie Hcp (1200m) at Grafton in July.
However Trinder will try to convince Stitt to let him take the horse to Melbourne for a run after the Launceston start before he goes home.
