Mudgee
$65 Win Christo R2 @ $2.5 (TAB)
$10 Win/$25 Place Magical Flame R4 @ $13/$4 (BetEasy)
Mudgee Overview:
Think there are two good things at Mudgee, starting with Christo in the first. He was nominated for the Randwick Highway on Saturday and I thought he would have gone close here. Stable elects to run here in a very thin Class One/Maiden and to be fair, bar he and We Can’t Be Beaten, you have to go back a fair way to see a picket next to their name in the form guide. The last start maiden win was dominant and he looks progressive. Gee I think Magical Flame is overs in the fourth. Has been excellent in two runs back from a spell. Found the 800m too sharp fresh at Parkes but finished off with real purpose before going to 1000m at Orange where she was again outpaced but picked up and was good late when a closing second. 1200m should be fine for her, she’ll do no work from the draw and with clear, I think she’ll run a huge race that doesn’t have much depth to be fair.
Bordertown
$100 Win Marman R7 (Tote)
Bordertown Overview:
Made Marman the best of the day but no odds up at the time of writing so a bit of a guessing game as to what odds he’ll be. I think around the $4 mark would be ideal, but given how dominant he was last start at the track/distance, that could be wishful thinking. Former NSW galloper who had been okay since joining John Hickmott but he showed his best here last time, when the Fawke Lift got fair dinkum on him in the straight and he savaged the line to put them away. When trained in NSW, once he found good form, he generally held it. Holy Juan looks the only serious threat IMO, but Marman looks to be heading in the right direction now so happy to be in his corner.
