The feature race at Caulfield this Saturday is the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) where it is all about three time Group l winner Broadsiding.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2024 Caulfield Guineas.
2024 Caulfield Guineas Speed Map
GaiBott have the speed here, with Wanaruah the early leader, with Mayfair comfortably gliding across from out wide. Now, does J Mac give Broadsiding a dig in the ribs, kicks up underneath Mayfair to come across and lob one off in the first four, or does he drag back?
2024 Caulfield Guineas Runner Preview:
1. Broadsiding: It’s hard seeing anything other than a win for 1 Broadsiding. On face value, just a win in the Golden Rose, but keep in mind he was first up and gave them a start and a beating, producing a brilliant sustained finale. Fitter, up to the mile, the depth here isn’t deep IMO…I think good luck beating him.
2. Rue De Royale: Strong maiden win at Bendigo and had every chance in the Stutt behind Evaporate. He’s a nice horse but he’s not up to this level.
3. Evaporate: Evaporate is a beauty for Team Hayes and commands respect. He has found the purple patch at The Valley and while he hasn’t been beating much, he has been impressive the way he has been winning, notably the Stutt Stakes. Good test here, but hard to knock how well he’s going and how genuine he is.
4. Angel Capital: To me, he screams out of the horse that will run okay here and then freshen up for the Coolmore. The Prelude looked crap on paper, it rated poor and I don’t see him running a strong mile.
5. Mayfair: Mayfair will push forward and give a good sight I am sure. They rode with a sit in the Golden Rose and was held up at times but he got clear and finished off his race strongly behind Broadsiding. The draw is tricky on paper, but I say he goes forward and if he doesn’t spend too many petrol tickets, I think he’s the place play.
6. Wanaruah: Blinkers first time is always dangerous, and he was brave on speed in the Prelude. I think he’ll turn the tables on Angel Capital and could pinch first four at a price.
7. Public Attention: Wide no cover in the Prelude and was brave, only getting nabbed late by Angel Capital. But sitting wide was no real disadvantage that day so perhaps a touch flattered and I have queries on him at 1600m. But, I will say he’s clear value vs other runners from the Prelude.
8. Feroce: Nice horse, but had every chance in the Prelude and although he maps well again, he’s not good enough.
9. Tropicus: I think this guy is clear, clear overs. He did nice things to start the prep and then in the Golden Rose, he lost his compass and got on the wrong leg, so a total forgive. He maps to get a suck run, he returns to Melbourne…I think he’s clear value in terms of exotics.
10. Vianarra: Back him in a maiden.
11. Private Life: He is similar to Angel Capital. I think he’s a nice horse but not at 1600m, certainly not against Broadsiding anyway. Prelude run was solid, but I thought he was there to win and couldn’t quite get there.
