After gaining a start in the 2019 Caulfield Guineas the regally bred Groundswell is subject to a betting plunge.
When the final field was released on Tuesday it looked unlikely that Groundswell who was the second emergency in the field would gain a start but this mornings scratching of The Holy One has given the half brother to star mare Shoals a start in the G1 Caulfield Guineas on Saturday and punters think he can win.
Bookmakers kept the lightly raced colt relatively safe in the betting at $16 despite the unlikelihood he would race but after news that he will take his place in the race punters jumped on smashing his quote into as low as $9.00 before easing back out to $11.
Groundswell was an eye catcher in the Guineas Prelude behind Alligator Blood and Dalasan and with more experience under his belt punters think he can turn the tables on the two favourites in the race.
Dalasan remains the favourite but has eased from $3.20 out to $3.50 although he did touch $3.80 which was taken quickly and Alligator Blood has been well backed which has seen his odds shorten from $6 into $5.
