Champions Mile 2024 – Field, Horse Previews, Odds, Tips, Speed Map & Betting Strategy

A crack field has been assembled for the Champions Mile (1600m) this Saturday at Flemington with stars deluxe lining up.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2024 Champions Mile.

2024 Champions Mile Runner Preview:

1. Mr Brightside: Mr Brightside is a beauty and has to be respected. He was a query at 2000m and with the hot tempo, he was never a factor in the Cox Plate, finishing down the track. Hopefully we never see him at 2000m again and now he can focus on 1400m/1600m races. Hard to beat here.

2. My Oberon: Gee I think he becomes dangerous at odds if Jenni isn’t going to bust them up. He is in career best form and nearly beat her in the King Charles. $5 vs $23 for this guy, why that is I do not know. Clear overs.

3. Pinstriped: Didn’t do a bad job at Caulfield last time but was never really a threat and while he did win the Memsie, I can’t see him doing something similar here.

4. Antino: Antino is the straight bat play for me. He has been kept on ice since that stunning win in the Toorak where he gave them a proper start but gave them a proper beating. Has eyes on Hong Kong so would want to run well here and does being fresh legs into this whereas the others may be beaten up.

5. Desert Lightning: Stuck on well enough behind Antino in the Toorak but was safely and he has too much ground to make up to turn the tables.

6. Another Wil: Got the A1 run in transit and duly saluted to win last Saturday. I think he’ll get the beaut run in transit, like him up to the mile and he does seem to save his best for Flemington. Definite threat and overs.

7. New Energy: Not bad in the King Charles but I just don’t think he is up to this level.

8. Von Hauke: I think he’s sneaky flying…but why are they running here? He’s not up to these. He’s going to win a race, with the right placement. But this ain’t good placement.

9. Pride Of Jenni: The fascinating runner and the story is there to be written that Pride Of Jenni bounces back, wins and Tony Ottobre pulls the right rein. But, to me, the Cox Plate and King Charles tells me she’s a tired horse. But, if they roll the dice and roll forward, do her thing, she’s going to take running down.

10. Fangirl: The mini gap between runs I do like for her but for mine, the King Charles proved that genuinely run races see her right out, so with that in mind, I am keen to oppose her and take her on.

11. Amelia’s Jewel: Looked all over the winner last week in the Empire Rose but couldn’t withstand the finale of Atishu. Blinkers looked to switch her right on but she’s not up to this top level I say.

12. Stefi Magnetica: I don’t think I am alone when saying that I think with the run, she wins the Golden Eagle last Saturday but was the meat in a very messy sandwich. She’s flying this girl and off that run, I am confident she can acquit herself well at this level.

13. Broadsiding: Broadsiding is a star colt. Just lost the plot with the tempo of the Cox Plate but he picked himself up and kept finding the line behind Via Sistina. If he has petrol left in the tank, he is more than good enough to be dangerous against this lot.

2024 Champions Mile Speed Map

On paper, it seems quite obvious with Pride Of Jenni leading and leading comfortably. But with no Declan Bates, who has been boned, what does that mean for Jenni? If she doesn’t lead, who takes it up? My Oberon maybe? New Energy? Antino can slide across maybe?
