2025 Devonport Cup Runner Preview:
1. Hype: Half decent ride and he wins this race last year. He is on track to do something very well in this race after two WFA runs to start the campaign. He is better suited over a bit further, may have eyes on the Hobart/Launceston Cup, but he has class, he’ll be strong late…I think he’s the each way play.
2. Swoop Dog: He has run in the past three editions of this race, winning it in 2023, and running third last year. Brave effort in the Longford Cup last Wednesday and looks to have that sense of timing for this race…in with a shout.
3. Kaliuwaa Falls: Brings The Inevitable form, which clearly reads well for this. Too far back last time behind the local champ but was good late. Track/distance winner from the Spring, he can win for sure.
4. General Assembly: He is the in form Synthetic horse for this with wins in the key lead ups. But, they have come over the mile and I do think the rise in trip will find him out against some of the better class animals. Keen to oppose.
5. Cartoon Graveyard: Great in defeat behind General Assembly before taking on The Inevitable and didn’t disgrace himself at all in defeat. He’s the weight/form horse…he can win, but is just on the short side for mine.
6. Ashy Boy: There is a lot of set up screaming when it comes to this horse. Two lead up runs, hard fit now, Blinkers are on and Froggy is riding, and he rides the horse better than anyone else. He is very dangerous and suspect the market will come to him.
7. Asva: Big run in defeat behind General Assembly last time given he was wide no cover throughout but kept finding the line when running second. He maps to do no work to perhaps off set the distance query…one for exotics more so than a winning threat.
8. Sushi Express: Tough on speed win over the mile at Launceston last time…but the 1800m does look a bridge too far for him I say. Keen to oppose.
9. The Spirit Of Zero: Didn’t do a bad job behind General Assembly last time but this looks a bridge too far.
10. Wellsborough: Racing really well at present, albeit in easier company. The trip will be no issue…class is the issue. Outside first four chance at best.
11. Zulu Angel: Too far back in the run in the Longford Cup but did make up ground late without threatening. Not sure he wins but a first four contender.
12. Mywordis: Plain behind General Assembly last time and can’t be entertained.
13. Noble Exception: Didn’t fire in the Longford Cup and although he loves the Synthetic, he’s not up to these.
14. Blonde Suspect: Another that likes the Synthetic but he’s not at this class.
2025 Devonport Cup $100 Betting Strategy:
$10 Win/$40 Place on both Hype and Swoop Dog. Class runners that are in form and/or love the Synthetic.
Group l Strategy Outlay: $3100
Group l Strategy Return: $1547

2025 Devonport Cup Speed Map
The speed looks drawn inside so the tempo should be genuine. Ashy Boy, General Assembly and Sushi Express like to sit on speed so they should generate good early tempo. Cartoon Graveyard and Noble Exception are drawn out but may slide forward. Asva lands in a plum spot from the draw.
