The last of the majors at Flemington this Saturday is the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) where some of the best mares in Australia will do battle.

Looks pretty straight forward here with Grinzinger Belle rolling to the front and doing as she pleases. Outside her, I can’t see much early speed. Maybe Socks Nation can roll forward?
2024 Empire Rose Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Atishu: She brings the elite WFA/Group l/proper form and has the 2000m run under the belt via the Might And Power. She hasn’t been quite as dynamic as previous preps, but she has class and that will carry her a long way.
2. Amelia’s Jewel: Blinkers off, blinkers on, wet ground, dry ground, up in trip…I’ve had enough of her. If she wins, too good, but for mine, she’s got gone. Very disappointing.
3. Orchestral: Orchestral has been set for the race and looks to be humming after the Toorak, where she had zero luck in behind and got warm late in a very good piece of work behind Antino. Back to Mares grade, hard fit, she gets J Mac…she has plenty going for her.
4. Revolutionary Miss: Revolutionary Miss is ticking along beautifully towards this race. She won two back here before racing two weeks back in the Tristarc when leading at a crawl and just lacked the turn of foot to finish the job when nabbed late by Lady In Pink. More genuine tempo here, bunny to chase, I think she’ll be far more effective.
5. Zardozi: Love her, but why is she $17? This is a barrier trial for the Melbourne Cup. She’s not here to play. Should be much longer in the market.
6. Kimochi: Gee I thought she had every chance in the Silver Eagle and just whacked late despite looming. Gate one and Bowman are two big ticks and she’ll be strong at the end of the mile.
7. Alsephina: I thought she was super in the Toorak. Well held by Antino and just kept fidning the line in a really good effort. Shinn back on, kind map, strong late…has to be respected.
8. Lekvarte: Bless her heart and the Angst win. Got a 12/10 ride by Parr but even allowing for that, she was dominant and impressive. I think she’s in with a shout.
9. See You In Heaven: Really honest mare that will try her heart out…but she hasn’t quite got the killer blow to win.
10. Socks Nation: Sneaky knockout hope. Barrier trial it seemed behind Jimmysstar, getting held up at times when seemingly having something to offer. If she can slide forward, I reckon she’s in with a big shout.
11. Grinzinger Belle: Grinzinger Belle will give an almighty sight for Danny O’Brien. Three weeks between runs since a dominant all the way win over the mile at Caulfield where she got a peach front running steer and gave nothing else a look in, winning quite impressively. She loves Flemington, she’ll lead and give a great sight.
12. Lady In Pink: Blessed in the run in the Tristarc and saluted. Harder here, not for me.
13. Plenty Of Ammo: Helped by a lot of interference inside so I say she was somewhat blessed to win the Crystal Mile. Really good mare on the up, but this is different gravy. I’m keen to oppose her.
