As is the case most of the year, it was a busy week at the trials and jumpouts across Australia as the Summer racing is here, with some progressive types stepping out in readiness for their campaigns.
I’ve looked at the available trials and jumpouts for the week and have come up with a few to follow heading forward over the next few weeks.
RECENT RESULTS: Busy past seven days, beginning last Friday under the lights at the Sunny Coast. The Move got the maiden win out of the way at start two, while All Native copped pressure in front and felt the pinch late. Aquitaine continued his winning ways on the Kensington track. On Saturday at Rosehill, Nordic found the 1800m too short and is looking for further while Sancy landed some good bets at odds to win. Wise Hero was flat at Pakenham, likewise Whypeeo at Doomben. Tee Train was just fair at Werribee on Sunday, while Fashchanel and Celandine ran 1/2 at Hawkesbury in impressive debuts. On Thursday at Wyong, Strike was disappointing while Chat caught the eye late.
UPCOMING RUNNERS:
Friday December 13
Murwillumbah: Madam Of The House R3 – Comes out of a strong maiden first up, looks really hard to beat
Canterbury: Battleground R1 – Short, but just has to hold up from gate one to be winning.
Canterbury: Savvy Ken R7 – Has trialled up very well and looks a great way bet
Saturday December 14
Cranbourne: Tigger R6 – Looks the good thing of the weekend IMO
Eagle Farm: Zourkhan R5 – The little bit of juice in the track is perfect, as is coming back to 1800m. Great each way chance
Eagle Farm: Reckless Choice R8 – Loved the trial at Deagon. May need the run though
Morphettville: Ef Troop R7 – Firmer footing, off the trials, he looks the one
Randwick; Encountabull R4 – Loved the trial and J Mac sticks
Randwick: Signore Fox R6 – Back to 1200m looks a big tick
Randwick: Bobbing R7 – He’s flying. Horrible racing pattern
Randwick: Petronius R9 – Needs to win to get into the Magic Millions consideration. Gate is awful
Sunday December 15
Hawkesbury: Dimitri R2 – If he’s good odds, double figures and better, I’ll be backing each way
Bendigo: Tee Train R5 – Last chance for him
NEW SOUTH WALES
Wednesday December 11 (Kembla): Heat 6 caught my attention, notably the unraced Bjorn Baker gelding Light And Dark. Gee I liked the trial from this guy. Showed good early toe to lead, did it comfortably and was caught late by a stablemate, but had plenty in hand it seemed, and the overall time was clearly the best of the morning. Keen to see him debut.

Friday December 13 (Randwick): I think Chris Waller has a high quality two year old in Aeecee Power, who won Heat 10 and it’s the second time she’s impressed me. First trial she led throughout but this trial she took a sit before getting a split between runners and the turn of foot was there, doing it with the ears pricked. She’s a beauty. Quantico looks a maiden winner in waiting if Heat 15 is any guide. Lovely piece of work from this colt, who sat off the speed before J Mac gave him clear air in the straight and under light riding picked up very nicely and was impressive. He should be winning his maiden and better races.

VICTORIA
Tuesday December 10 (Tatura): Decent set of trials at Tatura on Tuesday morning. The one that caught my eye was the two year old Lopez for the McEvoy stable in Heat 3. Sat on speed throughout under Currie and kind of crabbed on the turn but once she balanced up, she moved very well and ended up winning the trial impressively, with something in hand.

Wednesday December 11 (Stawell): Fast Fever has always been a good trialler and he grabbed my attention again in winning Heat 9. This time Johnny Allen gave him a good hit out, pushing the gelding out to the line and responded well in winning the jumpout. Given a good hitout here off the back of a quiet trial tells me he’ll be ready to go first up.

QUEENSLAND
Tuesday December 10 (Deagon): Tricky race for Reckless Choice to resume in at Eagle Farm on Saturday but was really taken by his performance in Heat 3. He sat back in the run before being presented wider and under no real riding, closed off hard to run third to Scallopini, a well performed stablemate. He has a win in him this prep. Gotta Kiss looks one of the leading local chances for the Magic Millions and she looks in very good order if her Heat 8 trial win is any guide. Loved the way she put them away and did it without really being fully extended. Our Ariana bumped into Gem Of Scotland on debut back in March but has been given a good break and Heat 9 was her second trial back. Loved the way this filly went about her business, leading throughout and when given a reminder by Du Plessis, she gapped them.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Monday December 9 (Belmont): Sean Casey does have an astute stable and he looks to have a good one in the shape of Just A Pinch, an unraced filly who won Heat 4, her second career trial. Led throughout under Knuckey and what I liked is that when she was given a bit of rein, she instantly responded and looks a good mover. Keen to see her debut.

Thursday December 12 (Morphettville Parks): Lake District Girl is a pretty sharp mare for the McEvoy stable and she looks set to win races this prep based on her winning effort to take out Heat 4. Led throughout under Vorster and he had the mare under a really good hold. Despite the margin being narrow, it was impressive and she could have won by further. The standout of the week across Australia came here in Heat 5 via Autumn Splendour. Gee it was a lovely piece of work. Was tucked in behind the speed before angling wider on the turn and really, was only given some rein the last 75-100m and whe picked them up effortlessly to win. Visually, stunning, and was backed up on the clock.
