As is the case most of the year, it was a busy week at the trials and jumpouts across Australia as the Autumn Carnival approaches, with some progressive types stepping out in readiness for their campaigns.
I’ve looked at the available trials and jumpouts for the week and have come up with a few to follow heading forward over the next few weeks.
RECENT RESULTS: Busy past seven days, so here’s a list of runners that were highlighted
Riddle Me That: Wide throughout but far too good in a very impressive return
Hey Happy: Wants a set of jumps and he’ll be winning
Beret: On one hand, unlucky, but for the most part, had its chance
Queen Annabel: Still hurting after this. 12/10 steer by Olly and only just got beat
Quiet Riot: Okay effort, but likely back to provincial grade
Think It Over: Wants 2000m it seems
Jor El: Bombing the start sealed his fate
God Of Thunder: Big win and destined for better things
Cazabillie: Coming winner off this resumption
Strip Club: Back to Port Lincoln
Loving Gaby: Will take a good one to beat her in the Newmarket
Redzel: Ran an absolute beauty in defeat
Skelm: Very patient ride cost him the win I think
Fortification: Improves off this resumption, he can win races
Reaching: Lovely returned and has blacktype written all over her
Heart Breaker: Did work to lead and couldn’t finish off. Forgive
Tight Ropes: Better as a 3YO
Vivid Fortress: Bad start cost it big time
Vibrant City: Bit wobbly on the turn but overall a strong debut winner
UPCOMING RUNNERS:
Friday February 21
Canterbury: Seraglio R2 – Luckless on debut, can bounce back
Canterbury: Super Oasis R5 – Prefer her at Rosehill on Saturday but hard to beat here as well
Moonee Valley: Ablaze R1 – Think he’s a near good thing off the trial performance at Geelong
Saturday February 22
Caulfield: Spend R3 – Prefer him here rather than Rosehill
Caulfield: Muntaseera R7 – I think she’s right in the mix as a leading chance
Caulfield: Personal R7 – One to watch for the VRC Sires
Caulfield: Anjana R8 – Great knockout chance in the Oakleigh Plate off a sharp jumpout win at Terang
Newcastle: Patrina R5 – Very good debut, hard to beat on the bigger track
Newcastle: Luna Mia R8 – Just wins if she runs up to the trials
Rosehill: Cellsabeel R3 – No prizes in finding her, but clearly the one to beat
Rosehill: Fortress Command R7 – Hoping he’s the flashing light run
Sunday February 23
Pinjarra: Burning Magic R7 – One to include in wider multiples
Pinjarra: Cup Night R8 – Good luck beating him
Monday February 24
Bathurst: Henschel R2 – One more look before penning
NEW SOUTH WALES
Monday February 17 (Randwick): Not sure Hungry Heart is Slipper quality. Perhaps a race like the Percy Sykes would be her go. She went around in Heat 9 in what was a fast run trial. She was run off her legs for the most part but once she balanced up the final 150m, she closed off really nicely. Likely runs next Saturday in the Sweet Embrace in order to get into the Slipper. Could easily back her off this trial.
Wednesday February 19 (Beaumont – Newcastle): Thought there was a sneaky good trialler this morning. Gameman is now with Noel Doyle after formerly racing with Chris Waller, debuting last year at Hawkesbury when down the track behind an above average one in Suave. He contested Heat 6 here and wasn’t let go at any stage, looking to move very well. Stable doesn’t mind going on the road for a win, so in a country maiden, he could go around potentially silly odds.
VICTORIA
Tuesday February 18 (Werribee): Was hard not to be impressed by what Stoical produced in Heat 13. Unraced colt for Team Snowden that led throughout to win this trial and looked to move very well on speed, skipping clear in the straight under a hold to win impressively and run good time for the morning. Debut winner for sure with the right placement.
QUEENSLAND
Thursday February 20 (Toowoomba): The time was nothing flash for the morning, but was really impressed by the change up speed Red Stina produced to win Heat 6. Was tucked in behind the two leaders before easing into clear air in the straight and she picked them up in a couple of strides for an impressive win. 1600m/thereabouts is her distance range, but could easily back her for a first up win off this.
