Could Winx’s winning streak be coming to an end? Punters seem to think so with Hartnell’s odds to win the Cox Plate shortening.
While Winx remains the short priced favourite at $2.10 there has been plenty of money to suggest Hartnell could turn the tables from their last meeting in the Warwick Stakes at Randwick.
The emphatic win by Jameka in the Caulfield Cup has seen online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au shorten the odds of Hartnell to take out Saturday’s Cox Plate from $3.00 in to $2.80.
Punters still think it’s going to be a two horse race with the next best horse at $15 in betting.
When they last met in the Warwick Stakes Winx was the clear winner defeating Hartnell by 3.5 lengths. Since then Hartnell hasn’t put a foot wrong winning his past 3 starts including a last start win in the Group One Turnbull Stakes beating Caulfield Cup winner Jameka by a margin.
Trainer John O’Shea galloped Hartnell at Moonee Valley on Saturday morning and could return to the track for further track work before the Cox Plate.
“His work this morning was pleasing and I am very happy with where he is at.” O’Shea said on Saturday.
“It did him good to come over and have a look, to stretch his legs a little as he has had a relatively easy time since the Turnbull.”
Winx will be looking to win her 13th consecutive race when they meet in the Cox Plate 2016.
