The form of Tony Gollan trained Most Important looks more than competitive heading into Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben 10,000, having been placed just 0.4 lengths off leading contender Impending last time out on the exact same track and distance.
The Sunshine Coast Cup winner has been placed in 4 of his last 5 runs, including an impressive win in December 2017 before finding crowd favourite Care To Think in consecutive runs. A Group 2 runner up last start however, Most Important looks as if he can go one better this time out when he again meets Care To Think as well as the likes of Redzel, In Her Time and English.
Running a best time of 1:08.24 for the 1200m trip at Doomben, the I Am Invincible gelding has run the fastest time over the track and distance in the field, perhaps setting the benchmark here with a time advantage over the favourites and a slight edge having been placed in 9 of 15 starts at the Doomben track.
Currently at $34 and $7.50, Tony Gollan’s Most Important may well be one of the best Queensland chance in the race, hoping for not only a solid performance but closing strongly be in the money again providing he continues to race in top order.
Most Important has drawn barrier 5 with champion jockey Jimmy Byrne to ride.
