One very lucky punter is over $700,000 richer after collecting on a TAB mystery bet from a $24 wager placed on the Melbourne Cup.
The life-changing collect came after the punter placed a mystery first four bet for the race that stops the nation at the Bairnsdale RSL in Victoria’s East Gippsland.
The 100 per cent win of the lucky numbers that came back – 11, 4, 12 and 14 – saw the mystery punter take home a stunning $728,000 in a huge windfall.
“It’s a great Australian story of a punter trying his or her luck on a TAB mystery bet in Australia’s great race at their local pub or RSL and winning up big,” TAB spokesperson Nick Smart said.
“Congratulations to the winner and we’re sure it will be a big night at the Bairnsdale RSL.”
Separately, a mystery boxed trifecta saw a $6 stake turn into a huge $28,491 collect.
Shock Cup winner Knight’s Choice had just 1.5 pent of the TAB hold, but the punters that were behind it won big.
One TAB punter collected $81,000 after placing $1000 on the long-shot chance at $81.
Another had $600 at $151 on the winner, while there was also a $750 win bet at $101 and a separate $500 each-way bet at $81/$22.
