A small but select field has been assembled for the Naracoorte Cup (2000m) this Sunday.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Naracoorte Cup.
2025 Naracoorte Runner Preview:
1. Hasta La Fiorente: I reckon they were hoping he could be one for the Adelaide Cup but he was terrible in the Strathalbyn Cup so he’s lining up here. Class factor but not sure how well he’s racing and whether he has a zest for racing.
2. Farooq: Strong winner two back at Penola before a total forgive at Mount Gambier where he dragged the field up to the leader and tired late. I think with a better run in transit, he can bounce back.
3. Commander Harry: He’s done a really good job since joining Paul Preusker. Dominant win at Mount Gambier in the race mentioned above, leading throughout and gave nothing else a look in. Not sure he leads here, but even if not, he’s racing too well to be ignored.
4. Flying Basil: Dominant Hanging Rock Cup triumph last time, leading all the way and was strong to the line. Tick over trial was quite good and the stable is flying at present. Just not sure about the form around him and has to rise in trip.
5. Dr Dee Dee: He ran third to Commander Harry at Mount Gambier. He got too far back in the run but I did like the way he closed off. If he can settle closer or get a drag into the race, he can take this out.
6. Enterprise Lassie: Several weeks between runs since a plain effort at Morphettville and can’t entertain her here.
7. Imposing Suspect: He ran second to Commander Harry at Mount Gambier and I thought had his chance, getting the ideal drag up but was safely held late. Tricky draw and while he is racing well, I am keen to take him on.
8. Any Luck: I think she’s the each way play here. She ran over 1800m at Horsham where the tight track was probably against her but I really liked the way she found the line. The rise to 2000m is fine IMO, maps perfect…great each way gamble.
9. Space Equity: He ran fourth to Commander Harry at Mount Gambier. He got back, was wide, and chased from a fair way out. His effort was gallant and is racing well but don’t think he is up against these.
10. Ready By Design: Plain at Horsham last time and is making up the numbers.

Flying Basil looks to lead this field up and I think will lead for fun. Enterprise Lassie has drawn inside and should hold a forward spot. Any Luck and Commander Harry won’t be too far away, especially the latter, so I anticipate the tempo to be genuine.
