Europe’s best sprinter and King’s Stand Stakes staple Baattash is favoured to add a fourth Group 1 to his collection with the five-furlong specialist heading TAB’s market at $2.80 for one of the co-features on the opening day of this year’s Royal Ascot meeting.
The King’s Stand is one of three Group 1s on a card that kicks off with the G1 Queen Anne Stakes. Palace Pier is the shortest-priced favourite of the day at $1.40 with the main danger the topically-named Order Of Australia ($7.50) given the race is run the day after Australia’s Queen’s birthday honours list recipients were announced.
The St James’s Palace Stakes is the other Day 1 feature, while many Aussie racing fans are eagerly anticipating the lone Group 1 on Day 2 – the Prince of Wales’s Stakes – which sees last year’s Cox Plate runner-up Armory the $3.80 third elect behind superstar mare Love ($2.40) and last year’s winner Lord North ($3.20).
All five days of Royal Ascot 2021 will be broadcast on Sky Channel with the Queen Anne Stakes launching tonight’s proceedings at 11.30pm AEST.
