The Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Randwick this Saturday shapes up to be a ripping contest with a host of winning chances.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2023 Randwick Guineas.
2023 Randwick Guineas Speed Map
Hollywood Hero reacted with Blinkers on to win last time so I think he will slide forward, as will Communist. Aft Cabin is drawn wide so I think J Mac has no option but to roll forward. Osipenko and Zou Tiger should lob into lovely spots, as should Matcha Latte.
2023 Randwick Guineas Runner Preview:
1 Manzoice: What a fascinating runner he is. Derby winner from the Spring that makes his awaited returned to the track and it’s clear that he has eyes on the Australian Derby. Interrupted prep but his recent work between races was very encouraging.
2 Osipenko: Osipenko is good colt. Ridden horrendously first up in the Eskimo Prince before they rode with intent in the Hobartville and voila, he won and stamped himself as top class. Last run at the mile came in the Caulfield Guineas and arguably wins with a good gate. He’ll settle handy I am sure and look the winner for a fair chunk of the race.
3 Aft Cabin: To me, this guy is a Goldilocks horse. He needs everything to fall into place to win. First time he has properly worked in the run was last time in the Hobartville and the end result? He folded in the straight. If he has to work again, he may as well be $51. But, if he gets the suck run behind the speed and is cuddled, he has the brilliance to win.
4 Zou Tiger: Been set for the race and is in form. Avdulla rode an aggressive race in the Hobartville, making sure Aft Cabin had to work, and while he won that battle, he lost the war as Osipenko nabbed him on the peg. Hopefully that run toughens him up and should that be the case, he rates as one of the leading chances.
5 Matcha Latte: Matcha Latte gets his chance for Group l glory. I thought he was excellent in the Hobartville. First up, he was there to win the race 250m out but condition just gave way late and he couldn’t quite get there, albeit he was beaten narrowly by Osipenko. Fitter, getting to the Randwick mile, it all points to him running well and is a great each way gamble.
6 Williamsburg: Winkers go back on to sharpen him up. He was good late in the Hobartville without threatening behind Osipenko. He loves the mile, he loves Randwick and it looks clear he has been set for the race. I am not penning him at all.
7 Promitto: He has talent this horse, but gee he was poor in the Hobartville, finishing last and was never a factor. Stunned if he could turn the tables.
8 Communist: Pass mark for sure in the Eskimo Prince fresh before doing work to get on speed in the Hobartville and tired late, finishing down the track. He gets Zac Purton to steer…but that’s not enough for him to improve.
9 Lindermann: Nash pulled their pants down at Rosehill last time. He got control in front, rolled and gave nothing else a look in. His two runs back have been against older horses, so he’s had the tough grounding now back to his own age. Just not sure he has the class to measure up.
10 Holymanz: SCRATCHED
11 The Fortune Teller: SCRATCHED
12 Attrition: Attrition is a very smart three year old for Mitch Freedman. He has been excellent this time in, winning his first two starts for the prep with ease before going to the CS Hayes where not much went his way in the straight and could make a case to say that with clear air, he goes close to beating Eliptical. He has the engine under the hood to measure up. Just needs room to move.
13 Hollywood Hero: Nice colt but he’s only coming off a moderate maiden win at Warwick Farm and this is a bridge way too far for him.
14 Cut On A Dime: Stable is absolutely flying, but this is a throw at the stumps for a well bred colt. Nice horse, will win races, but not here.
