Saturday’s The Bart Cummings winner Surprise Baby has shortened into outright Melbourne Cup favouritism after booking a spot in the race.
Surprise Baby wen’t into The Bart Cummings as the heavily backed $2.20 favourite and he did not disappoint punters winning the race with ease and booking a spot in the Melbourne Cup Field on 5th November.
Surprise Baby basically had to win The Bart Cummings to have any chance of gaining a start in the 2019 Melbourne Cup with the horse down in the order of entry and he did just that giving Australia a rare homebred horse in the race.
The Horsham trained horse narrowly missed a start in the race in a controversial photo finish to Steel Prince in The Andrew Ramsden and went into the weekends race as a $26 chance in Cup markets.
Other movers in Melbourne Cup odds were Finche who has shortened into $11 from $15 after his run in the Turnbull Stakes with the Internationals rounding out the top ten in the market.
