Tassie fillies odds slashed for Australian Guineas, All Star Mile

Tasmanian super filly Mystic Journey was outstanding this afternoon in taking out the Thomas Lyons Stakes at TAB Park Elwick in Hobart and has firmed into TAB’s $4 favourite for the Australian Guineas at Flemington on March 2.

Along with claiming the mantle of favouritism for the 2019 Australian Guineas, Mystic Journey has shortened from $11 to $8 for the All-Star Mile to be staged at Flemington on March 16.

“Before her victory in the Thomas Lyons Stakes, Mystic Journey was $4.50 for the Australian Guineas but the win, combined with the doubtful status for The Autumn Sun, has seen the Adam Trinder-trained filly become TAB’s $4 favourite,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.

“When nominations were officially announced for the Australian Guineas in mid-January, Mystic Journey opened $11 and she has received 55 percent of money placed on the winner with Ringerdingding the next best at just 9 percent.”

The Needs Further filly, who stamped her class with victory in the Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day, was $26 for the All-Star Mile when the race was announced in mid-November last year and tightened from $15 to $11 after claiming the Lady Lynette Stakes at Launceston on the night of January 23.

“Following today’s victory over seasoned gallopers in Hellova Street ($101 for the 2019 All Star Mile) and Chamois Road, there should be a groundswell of public support for Mystic Journey in the All-Star Mile not just from Tasmanians, but racing lovers in general,” Langskaill said.

Land Of Plenty, who dead-heated for second with Kementari in yesterday’s C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield, was $11 before that run and is now $6 after one bet of $2,500 at $8 was placed this afternoon for a potential $20,000 collect.

Manuel, who was a surprise winner of the C.F. Orr Stakes almost 24 hours ago, shortened from $101 to $26 for the world’s richest mile race.

Public voting on the $5m All Star Mile will be open until Monday, February 18, with the top ten vote-getters who provisionally accept their places in the field to be revealed on Thursday, February 21.
