Lot 241 in Arrowfield’s 2014 Magic Millions Sale draft is enjoying the spotlight that only a talented older sibling can switch on.
The yearling is the powerfully built Charge Forward filly from the Redoute’s Choice mare Belle Giselle – a cross that has produced five stakes performers, including stakes-winning juveniles Direct Charge & Assail, from only 12 runners.
The filly’s older sibling is 5YO gelding Messene who defied a wide barrier to win most impressively over 1550 metres and complete a treble, following wins by Maysoon and All American’s son Invisible, for Hawkes Racing and jockey James McDonald at Canterbury today.
The Segenhoe Stud-bred Messene has now won seven city races and more than $200,000 in his 10-start career for George Cloros and his son Matt who now owns Belle Giselle.
Belle Giselle, whose dam is a half-sister to the recently retired champion sire Zabeel, foaled a Gio Ponti colt this spring, and is in foal to Animal Kingdom.
As a son of Lonhro, Messene is inbred 4 x 3 to Zabeel’s dam Lady Giselle who spent most of her breeding life at Arrowfield where she was buried after her death in 2003.
Messene has been managed patiently by his owners and trainers who will now attempt some richer prizes with him during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival.
The Belle Giselle filly is one of 16 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearlings by Charge Forward whose outstanding record features seven 2YO stakeswinners.
