Smart Missile has been one of the most popular new Australian sires in recent memory and his first foals have proved equally popular at this week’s Magic Milions National Weanling Sale.
Nine fillies and four colts from the 147 foals in Smart Missile’s first crop sold for an average of $79,131, almost four times his service fee.
Scott & Kathy Irwin’s Rothwell Park presented the three top-priced lots by the brilliant juvenile Group 2 winner, headed by the filly from the city winner Rain Melody (by Lonhro) sold for $200,000 to Magic Millions NSW as agent.
Musk Creek Farm was the successful bidder at $190,000 for the filly from Thirst (by Chester House) and Segenhoe Stud signed for the colt from Some Girls Do (by More Than Ready) at $110,000. Another six Smart Missile weanlings made $50,000 or more.
Smart Missile served 196 mares in each of his first two seasons and is in similar demand again this year at an unchanged fee of $22,000 inc. GST.
