The Shorts has a long and rich history in Australian racing, stretching all the way back to 1867. As one of the longest standing horse races in Australia, The Shorts has hosted many outstanding sprinters throughout the years. The Shorts is a Group 2 event run over 1200 metres, taking place at Randwick Racecourse on the same day as the Group 1 George Main Stakes.

The Shorts is run under set weight and penalty conditions, with prize money of $200,000 up for grabs. While some horses run The Shorts straight from a dry spell, many of the past winners have had momentum on their side from other impressive runs prior to this race. The Group 3 Concorde Stakes is a good form guide for this event, as is the Group 2 Premiere Stakes.
The Shorts has attracted a lot of great horses throughout the years, including winners Rise ‘N’ Shine in 1990, Euclase in 1991, Black Ink in 2005, Bentley Biscuit in 2006, Fritz’s Princess in 2008, and Hot Danish in 2010. The 2011 race was won by Love Conquers All, who powered down the straight for a narrow win over Albert The Fat in second and Winter King in third.
