Manighar, the first horse to win the Australian Cup-Ranvet Stakes-The BMW treble, is out of the spring carnival.
The gutsy grey, trained by Peter Moody, will go for a spell immediately after it was discovered he would require a minor knee operation.
He was the second favourite for this Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes, with Underwood Stakes winner Ocean Park now expected to start a prohibitive price.
He is also out of the Cox Plate, for which he was an $11 chance this morning, and the Melbourne Cup, in which he has run seventh and fifth the last two seasons.
Manighar had returned with a terrific first up effort when second to Southern Speed in the Makybe Diva Stakes before disappointing as favourite in the Underwood Stakes.
