As a boy growing up in the racing industry, many things appealed to my imagination.
One of them was this: what would happen if a field one week, backed up and all raced again 2 weeks later?
Would we get the same result? Would class shine through?
Well, with the re-opening of Eagle Farm on Saturday comes my ‘dream race.’
Let me explain. Two weeks ago, at Doomben, a group of 3YOs clashed over 2000m and the winner was A MAN TO WATCH. Appropriately named as he won easily, stamping his authority and suggesting he would be a stayer of the future.
In race 4, the $105,00 3YO Quality over 2200m at the ‘Farm this Saturday, we see 8 runners line up. And they are the actual, exact 8 runners who went 1st to 8th in that Doomben race.
Surely that means the winner wins again, followed by us landing the Exacta with his runner-up TRUSTY LAD and the Trifecta with MISS SARA running 3rd. Throw in CEOL NA MARA who was 4th and we get the First 4. That’s how they finished 2 weeks ago. Surely the same occurs again.
The TAB has A Man To Watch at $1.50 to replicate the win and beat the same horses again.
Obviously different track, slight weight variables and different barriers will play a bit of a role in this but once, just once in life, can’t we believe that history repeats itself here.
For the record: the numbers you need to replicate the form from 2 weeks back are: 1 -2 -4 -3!
