Golden Slipper horses – What are their potential values?

So, we wake to the richest 2YO race on the planet and during it’s storied life thus far, it has become probably the quintessential stallion-making race in Australia.

The Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas is up there too, but the Gr 1 Golden Slipper over 1200m for the babies, is the golden chalice all breeders want to win.

So let’s do a hypothetical look at the future worth of the winner, using facts, precedence et al, for this year’s Slipper.

I’m going to look at three things per horse: 1) cost at yearling, 2) prizemoney thus far, 3) value should the 2YO win the Golden Slipper, based on pedigree.

Should be fun. All comments welcome at the end.

TAGALOA (Lord Kanaloa-Vasilissa): Cost – $300,000 Magic Millions GC Sale. Won – $1,067,150.

Value if winner: $30million

HANSEATIC (Street Boss-Itameri): Cost – retained by breeder. Won – $595,000.

Value if winner: $27million

FARNAN (Not A Single Doubt-Tallow): Cost – $550,000. Won – $457,700

Value if winner: $25million

PRAGUE (Redoute’s Choice-Purely Spectacular): Cost – $1.6million. Won – $214,000

Value if winner: $34million

KING’S LEGACY (Redoute’s Choice-Breakfast In Bed): Cost – $1.4million. Won – $200,000

Value if winner: $30million

MAMARAGAN (Wandjina-Forbidden): Cost – $180,000. Won – $11,350

Value if winner: $21million

RATHLIN (fastnet Rock-Wiener): Cost – $725,000. Won – $189,500

Value if winner: $22million

*The remaining runners are fillies and would go for between $1.7m and $2.8m with AWAY GAME (Snitzel-Elusive Wonder) fetching the most at that $2.8m mark. And given she cost $425,000 and has already won $1,720,300, that’s a pretty fair ROI.

PERSONAL (Fastnet Rock-Personify): who cost $640,000 and who has won $210,000 thus far would also fetch a handsome $2.5million if she won. DAME GISELLE (I Am Invincible-Ballet Society) who cost $500,000 and who has earned $790,000, would fetch about $2.2million if she landed the chocolates.

HUNGRY HEART (Frankel-Harlech): gives us a powerful European pedigree so if she won, that would get those buyers really excited. And probably to the tune of $2.5million. Not bad for a filly who sold as a yearling for $300,000 and who has earned $143,850 so far.

MINHAAJ (Exceed and Excel-Telaawa): is fascinating. Great pedigree and it features that great Danehill x Zabeel cross. Has to be worth north of $2.2million should she win.

Good luck everyone.

For the record, I like AWAY GAME to win from Mamaragan and Minhaaj.
